For years, its been our annual pilgrimage...Darjeeling.
You could be travelling to quieter places(Dalhousie,Patnitop,),better shopping(manali),even better snow views(Chaukori,Munshiari,Pelling,Auli)
But its hard to beat Darjeeling...lovely views if you are staying at the other end of mall raod...at Sailong Inn,Gymkhana club,TRC,New Elgin. The mighty Kanchanjunga looming over you, lovely strolls thru pristine glens,food...delicious confectionery at Glenary's,full leaf tea in a pot, freshly steamed momo's at aunty's.
You could walk down to the Zoo...looking at the Siberian tiger,Red Panda...marvel the cleaniliness.Further down is the Himalayan Montaineering Acamedy,a pilgramage of sorts.
The evenings would be wiled away sitting on the mall, watching pretty people whizzing past,,,this town seems to be having a vibrancy of its own,a distinct entity
Other musts are the botanical gardens, the batasia loop on the toy train, happy valley where you must stop to sample the tea,and glance at a real life tea garden, the Tibetean centre which is a study in self resoluteness and hard work, the mandir on top on mall road.
All in all,a wonderful experience-but you must stay at a place which offers a direct view of the Kanchanjunga.Without this...its a strict no-no
