Dapoli has a decently good beach, don't expect to see white sands or jumping dolphins and you won't be disappointed. We decided to go to Dapoli for new years, it turned out to be quite a mistake. All the male population from the surrounding districts decided to make an appearance so it was quite a dampner.
On the whole, it did have its plus points. We stayed at Sagarika Resort which was a 10 min walk from the beach. The rooms were great and the service was tip top. They were really helpful and provided us fuel for our bbq. Order the surmai and prawns - they are amazingly delicious.
If you land up at dapoli beach just keep walking towards the right. You'll see a mountain appear in a while. There was a hotel/residence? halfway up which had a spectacular view of the beach minus the municipal school kids and guys in chaddi n banyan who hover around the main area. Stay there if you can, it looked worth it. The hill it's on makes an interesting climb - we did it for kicks.
If you're leaving from Bombay, you can catch a passenger train from Dadar terminus(not recommended) which takes a lifetime to reach or an express train. Mandovi express from kurla terminus- best option. You can also drive down, it took us 6 hours to drive back. Carry paper bags for the travel sick as the dapoli road is a real doozy. Go off season and take a football, it should make you smile :-)
