We traveled to Dapoli on long weekend of Holi. We traveled from Pune to Dapoli by car. There are many routes.
Khopoli -> Nathegao -> Dapoli its more than 200 kms
Via Bhor ghat : shortest route
many more via mahabaleshwar-> panchgani longest route.
While going we took the bhor ghat we started at 7.30 and reached dapoli by 1 pm. While returning we took the Nathegao route, we left from dapoli by 6.15am and reached 11.30 am to pune. If you are planning to take a train then Train will be drop you at khed so from there you will have to take a rick/buses to reach dapoli. We didn’t find any taxi’s there so I guess its only rick /buses to reach dapoli.
As we took the Bhor ghat route. The route was fabulous in sceneries. In between we saw the 1 big dam that we didn’t expected. That was really great in between the mountains. But the pathetic part was the road, there were some bad patches and also turns were very very sharp as compare to tamhini ghat. In present scenario please leave early from home because it will take any how more than 5 hrs.
The first thing that we discovered on reaching dapoli was there is no beach at dapoli. The beach situated at 16 kms ahead, place name is harnai and murud. Thankfully, we had cancelled our booking in advance b’c we found the rates were too high 2000/-.
We haven’t had booking in advance when we reach harnai; we thought that when we will reach at that time we will book the local huts. But to our luck we didn’t find any good place to stay. We searched for about an hour to get a place to stay. So we stayed at Sagar homes which costed around 700/- per room, it was having only 5 rooms, we needed 4 rooms. The place was not so good to stay but it was situated just in front of beach and there was a big lawn. So we enjoyed our evening there.
The beach was not at all good the sand was black and silver. On beach you will not find any shack. Infact I didn’t feel like getting into the water. I have been to Goa, Andaman n nicobar, ganpatiphule, kashid, alibhag, divyaghar, harihareshwar etc so after having that exp I didn’t feel like going into the water.
For the guys are planning to go there here are the few advice:
Stay in Lotus(its was first the MTDC resort but not any more), sea princess, sagar hill resort or ashiyana. In these first 3 opens at the beach. I loved the Lotus.
Food, you will get good food at daploi town not in harnai beach. At harnai, in Lotus you will find good food. Also local outlets are very smart. They almost cook in advance and serve you old cooked stuff. That happened with us.
Beach Activity: There are boating and dolphin trips with 100/- per person. If you want to see dolphin then take a trip in morning around 7-8am. There is a vehicle similar to hammer you can call it a small hammer J . This was the bike I loved driving. You will find this type of bikes only in front of the Lotus beach Resort.
Site seeing:- there is a fort which you can visit till 6 pm. Murud is also same as harnai.
My advice to you, if you are a beach lover then avoid visiting it. No doubt that in rainy season that place will be heaven. In rainy season or just after rainy season you will only see green color all around the place.
