Kancha cheena. Review on Danny Denzongpa

He's probably the one of the most underrated actor in bollywood cinema. He's to good to be in bollywood. He has been in hollywood, in the movie seven years in tibet with international starcast brad pitt, and the oscar winner directer jean jacque.

Danny denzongpa was born in yuksom in west sikkim n 25th february in 1948. He went into bombay to try out his lucky in bollwood he did exactly that when he conqered bollywood s talent. Today he is a well respected bollywood actor and made a place for himself among the legends.

His real name is tshering phinstog denzongpa, and like most actors changed his name as well. He completed his schools from birla school of nainital in 1964 and graduated in bio sceince from government college in darjeeling, west bengal. He was one of the ten students from the host of applicants from all over india to attened the two year course at the film and televison institute of india in pune from where he graduated with a master art in dramatics. He also taught at the film institute for two years.

Danny has acted in over 125 films in hindi His first film was called bandish along with rajesh khanna and hema malini the movie flopped and danny wasn't recognized as an actor, then he tried his hands on some more films like milap, zaroorat, chalaak, khoon khoon, naayie duniya naaye log, still he remained unrecognized.

Then b.r chopra signed him in the film called dhund along with zeenat aman and sanjay khan, movie became a hit and his performance won him instant recognition and critical acclaim.

He shares a great chemistry with shatrughan sinha, and starred in a lot of movies with him being a supporting actor in movies like heera moti, do thug, choron ki barat, do ustaad, in which some were hits and flops. He has gave hits with feroz khan in movies like dharmatma, khotey sikkay were hits. He has also teamed with shashi kapoor, movies like chor machaye shor which was a superhit of the 70's and includes the superduper hit song called le jayenge le jayenge dil wale dulhania le jayenge reh jayenge paise wale dekhtey reh jayenge.

Another movies in which he gave a very good performance was mere apne. with shatrughan sinha and vinod khanna, the movie is one of my favorite and the shahrukh khan film josh is also copied from this one. The movie has very good performances by each one of the starcast members.

Danny has also starred in some solo projects in movie like ghatna, raftaar, gumrah in which the showman subhash ghai also has a part, lal khoti, which did average business. Danny was also a choice for playing gabbar singh for the movie sholay, he turned down the offer because at that time he wasn't into villain roles and his then girlfriend parveen babi kept him from doing that role as well.

He got a best supporting actor award for the movie called lahoo ke do rang in which vinod khanna was the main lead, danny plays vinod khanna's brother who is a bad guy at first and the director of the movie is none other then mahesh bhatt his first hit movie in 1979. although vinod khanna was a great actor danny just stole the show right away from him. Then danny started doing villain roles it started with the movie the burning train, in which he was great then on came bulandi in which rajkumar played the main lead and danny played the villain, the movie was a big hit. Then my favorite director mukul anand took him into the movie aitbar staring raj babar, dimple kapadia and danny as a police officer gives a commandable performance.he movie is copy of a hollywood flick called dial m for murder.

Then so on he has given memorable performances as villain in the 80's in movies like mardon wali baat, ustad, jungbaaz, bhagwan dada steals the show right away from rajnikant, yateem. Now on to his powerpack performance in the movie agnepath in the movie he played the role of a don name kancha cheena, although amitabh gotten the national award danny in some scenes just stole the show away from amitabh. Danny looked more handsome then ever in the movie agneepath, I was surpirsed by his performance when I watched it about 10 years ago.

AS mukul anand said in his interview long time ago that danny is his favorite actor that why he took danny in almost all of his movies aitbar, agnepaath, hum, khudagawah. danny has never let him down as well he gave a memorable performance as the don name bhaktawar in hum, and also played a sidekick to amitabh in the movie khuda gawah and got his second best supporting actor award.

He has also gotten a supprting actor award for the salman khan film sanam bewafa the movie was basically hit because of danny's performance and the music. The he also starred in the debut movie of sunil shetty called balwaan and gave a good performance as the villain.

Then on came some more good movies I really like him in the ram gopal varma film drohi in which he plays a villain in which nagarjuna looks a little bacha infront of danny at the ending. He gives a another good performance in the movie sangram along with amrish puri. another performance to remember was in the movie krantiveer where plays a villain named chatur singh chitah, along with nana patekar in the lead, danny laugh in the movie scares you.

In the movie vijay path along with ajay devhan a another villain role to remember, then rajkumar santoshi signed him for the movie barsaat where he plays a villain and also he was signed for the movie ghatak he played a villain named katiya gives his best performance in ghatak. Then again santoshi signed him for the movie china gate and danny proved the skills he has an actor could overshadow anyone, he stole some moments from best actors like om puri, naserudin shah and amrish puri he plays paitent who is fighting cancer, but also wants to do something good before he dies. The last I saw danny was in the movie shikaar which was total flop in 2004. But danny is making a come back as a villain in the sanjay dutt movie called jaan ki baazi which is al set to realease in 2006.

Along from movies danny is also a singer he has sung many hits songs n nepali, bengali and hindi and he also dered playback songs films with famous artists like kishore kumar, mohd rafi, lata mangeshkar and asha bhosle. He has also produced a hit t.v serial called ajnabi and starred in it.

So if it weren't for villains like danny, amrish puri, prem chopra who would have watched hindi movies without villains.
