Just when we all thought that good movies have had heir share in 2016 can't get any better, here comes dangal which will just blow our mind no matter whose fan you are. The extremes to which aamir khan has gone to justify the character is quite commendable. There are no direct errors in the movie so far. This is a movie you have got to watch.
Dangal(2016) is a movie based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughter Geeta's journey to be the first women to ever win an international gold in women's wrestling. Mahavir being a national champion in wrestling quits wrestling as he was strong armed by his father to join in an earning job. So, Mahavir decides to make his son a wrestler and make him win an international gold. Unfortunately, all the four children he has turns out be girls which makes him disappointed. Until one day, when his two elder children beat up a guy which make him realise one thing and I quote " Gold will always be gold, whether it comes from a boy or a girl", and so he begins wrestling training for his two elder daughters which turns out to be a quite torturous experience for the daughters but with time they keep up. The remaining story is about how geeta wins her first international gold and the obstacles in her journey.
The cast performance is extraordinary especially for the characters of Mahavir, Geeta and Babita. The scene where aamir fights with his daughter is priceless. The characters make us laugh, they make us cry and and most of all make us glued to the cinema. The acting does not seem like an artificial one. The supporting characters justified their role to the maximum extent possible. Humour is at its optimum level. The character of coach might have improved his acting skills.
The songs by pritam are quite catchy. "Dad, you are injurious to our health", " your glory as a wrestler may rise and fall as your stars are wrestling above", are one of many meaningful and awesome lyrics in the movie. it is really a good thing, there are no conventional duets, love songs etc in this movie. The music is fresh and good to listen.
Coming to cinematography, The director chose to take the story as realistic as possible, so most of the time we won't see any trick shots. The locations chosen, shots taken are far more than realistic.
