Kalyan to Daman

We (Myself, wife & my daughter started on Thu the 29th Oct 2009 (1st day) from Kalyan (Kyn) by Dadar local @6:30 hrs. We had reservation from Dadar (8:32hr) to Vapi (11:45hr) of Saurashtra mail which was stopping @ all stations like passenger train.

From Vapi there is a share Ambassador taxi @15/- each to Daman. We had spoken one day before with Marina Hotel which had vacant rooms. It takes 30 mins to reach Nani Daman from Vapi. Sat & Sun it’s very difficult to get the rooms. Hotel Marina was a Portuguese Governor house built in 1865 which was purchased by Mr.Wadia’s father in 1945 owner of the hotel as told by the hotel manager. This place was a heritage hotel full of antique furniture made of teak wood including floor, staircase door everywhere u will find use of teak wood. Crockery shelf etc Ambience, room service, hospitality, food everything was good. Tariff for AC. Room was Rs.1000/- per day. Extra Rs.200/- for kids above 6yrs a good hotel to stay with.

There is nothing to see in Nani Daman. We started for site seeing on 30th Oct 2009 next day (2nd day) around 10:00 hrs in auto which cost us Rs.200/- for Jambore beach, science museum, two forts (Nani & moti) Light house some churches etc. We went to Devika beach in the evening by paying return auto fare Rs.80/-. All 5 star hotels are located @Devika beach, budget hotels in Nani Daman.

Good place to stay will be moti Daman area where you find villa’s good old houses & place to walk in leisure & have feel of 5% Goa. Those who want to booze must go to Daman where liquor is cheaper than Goa. My suggestion is to go by car as from Kalyan / Thane / Dadar / Navi Mumbai its only 4hrs drive to Daman. If anyone wants to go by rly should have reservation.

On 31st Oct 2009 (3rd day) we started back for Kalyan. While coming back we came from Vapi (13:55hr) to Virar (16:00hr). Virar to Borivali (17:00) by train. Borivali (17:20hr) to Thane (20:30hr.) by BEST AC bus Rs.50/- & which took almost 3hrs for 45 mins ka journey because of traffic.Daman is having population of 90, 000 surrounded by Vapi Taluk in Valsad district of Gujarat. Languages know r Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi & English.

Rivers are polluted because of Vapi’s small scale industries & are also ignored by both the Union govt. as well as state govt. which I found while commuting from Vapi to Nani Daman. Only relief is that there is still greenery from Virar to Vapi which I don’t find on Central side of Mumbai suburban rly beyond Kalyan while going towards Pune & Nashik. This greenery will also get destroyed once suburban trains goes beyond Virar up to Dhanu. Gholvad is the last station on Western rly for Maharashtra border after which starts Umargaon in Gujarat.

I experience of this trip was not good that is why not feel to draft the experience in good format & phrase.
