I'll always remember Dalhousie for the first (breathtaking!) view I had of the himalayas - early morning, in the midst of a snow covered youth hostel colonial wooden building.

Dalhousie is a truly picturusque place - especially if you like simply walking. Poignant charm, quaint names (what else would you expect from a palce with roads like garam sadak and thandi sadak), Dalhousie is the palce to go if you'd like to forget the world for a while!

You can read more about my trip to dalhousie at https://geocities.com/travellingindia

Here's an excerpt from the diary...

A lovely ride up the hills and we land into Dalhousie. Ahhhh-There is no one statying in the Youth Hostel, so I have a huge dorm of 5 beds and a fireplace (without a fire!) all to myself!!

A nice long walk in the evening through the narrow garam sadak and then thandi sadak of the Mall. This place is clearly out of a dream...clouds and mist waft by...even saw some snow piled up on the road.

The view from the Youth Hostel balcony is great....snow clad hills all around - just out of reach! It's all quiet other than the occasional rumble of thunder and the crackling of lightning afar!

Next day...

Wow! Remember the lightning, thunder, and the loud noises on the ceiling yesterday night? IT WAS SNOW!!! I woke up today morning to find snow all around me. It was so exciting - my first glimpse of snow on land. Okay - I've seen snow on ships and other countries, but this is something totally different! Walked on snow covered paths all around Dalhousie. Already Dalhousie is a rather sleepy town. Add to that, today is sunday...so it shakes itself out of it's slumber a few hours after sunrise!
