In Dec 24th, 2009 I moved to Dalhousie base camp(~5000ft) of Youth hostel association of India for a organized trek from dalhousie to Kalatop( 8000ft) to Khajjiar(~5000ft) to Oberi(~2000ft). In the group I reported, total members are 61. One thing I want to reiterate here, it seems YHAI doesn't fix any upper limit to accomodate the number of person per group. What I saw there, they don't have the facility to provide a fair enough accomodation, sanitation facility and a hygenic environment to such a large number of people in a group at the destination except the base camp.
At khajjiar they put 10 person in each room(10ft X 8ft) and u have to adjust within that much space along with ur rucksacks loaded with many things u carried. Oberi, the last destination of trek , the accomodation provided by YHAI is the most horrible one. I along with my friend couldn't stay there and had to leave that place and searched private accommodation in chamba, a town near by( 4km from Oberi). Ur whole enjoyment of each day through the trek will not be a memorized one when the darkness approaches because u will have the fear of spending a night in a place u never have admired.
despite all this, trek route was fabulous, it was a mild one which will prepare u for a moderate level trek elsewhere. The beauty of baby sun kissed by the icy mountain is inchanting.
