Those days I just started staying in hostel and ‘home sickness’ was the prime lingo used throughout the day. Of-course being a brat I was missing the pampering part. And home made food was another thing that made me to miss my ‘sweet home’ badly. May be that was the time when I realized why Roti, kapda, makaan are believed to be the prime necessities to survive.

With the limited pocket money eating out was a luxury. But unknowingly I started indulging myself into the habit the eating out and today, it has become an integral part of my life. Now eating out & authentic food are just synonym to each other.

Good shakahari khana [veg food] is something I find difficult to get here. The number of outlets serving quality veg food is less and crowded most of the time [read especially during weekends].

It was one of my friends who took me for the first time to this place & trust me I just loved the place [love@first sight oops I mean first gulp? lolz]

Dal Tadka, the name is catchy enough. Especially for the ones who prefers roti over rice : ) Padharo sa [in Rajasthani language it means ‘welcome’] – that’s how Dal Tadka welcomes you. The wooden partition at entrance makes one to guess what is behind. With the cloth made jhumar, the bandhni [typical Rajasthani print] curtains, ethnic jewelry and puppets on walls would make one to feel the difference for sure. The attendants around in vibrant & colorful traditional dresses – adds up to create the typical ambience.

On being seated, one is served jaljeera – the complimentary welcome drink. And then it is time to select food to be ordered. Bread basket offering variety of rotis – phulka [with ghee], naan, misi roti, kulcha and other stuffed parathas. Sabjis like gatte-ki sabji, paneer, aloo methi, aloo-gobi, mutter-paneer along with dal fry, dal tadka, rajma … And the list goes on. Confused? Well.. you have an way out! Opt for thali – with rice, roti varieties, one sabji, unlimited dal, curd, papad and sweet.

Thali is available on Monday-Thursday for lunch & other days it is buffet lunch with more options like salad, color rice [pulao, ghee rice], assorted papad, mix vegetable fry, aloo tikki etc.

As per my experience must to try@ Dal Tadka – aloo tikki, crisp vegetable fry, dal bati churma, tamarind chutney, pickle.

Something different and worth giving try – mango lassi, kesar lassi

At a glance the place might seem costly specially for buffet [INR 150] but I must tell – with the wide variety actually the price is low. Once can never try so many dish if opt to order individually – but can cover only in buffet. And it is fun to taste the splurge of ghee on rotis or dal bati churma – after-all I am here to enjoy food and it is not a daily stuff. For buffet it is good to try all the item one by one rather than repeating the same ones [personal experience again]

The service seems slow during weekend [getting rotis from oven]

Next time you are there during weekend – look around! You might notice someone hogging on food :D
