It is published from 15 cities across tamil nadu, pondicherry, karnataka, and maharashtra.
It is known for its simple use of the tamil language. People trust the newspaper, as they do not speculate. Only factual news for official sources is published. They do not even attempt to impress their opinion on others, by writing an editorial. This is unique to daily thanthi, among all the newspapers of the world. Another unique feature is a cartoon strip, 'kannitheevu', translates as 'virgin island'. The story of sinbad the sailor has been continuing for 50 years, and still going strong.
The newspaper was founded in 1942 by si. Pa. Aditanar. The current managing director is dr. B. Sivanthi aditanar.
