I recently replaced a  2 tonne split hot+cold airconditioner with a Daikin 1.8 tonne split in the bedroom.  The Daikin is very silent, and am sure it will live up to its promise on power reduction.  While it is an expensive product, it is probably a good one.


The problem is not the product however - its the service and the general attitude.


Once the A/c was installed, there was a stale smell that started from the a/c along with increased dust in the room.  I called up the dealer who sold it and he said that it was not possible that dust was being emitted, and that he would send a person to check it out.


The technician / support person landed up.  First, he spent a lot of time explaining to me that there was no smell, when we were all able to smell it barring him. Gave some bizarre suggestions, like we should keep the room door open if we were getting a smell. Also referred to his 6 years of experience and that there was no smell.  Very reluctantly agreed to open up the unit and look at it. Restated there was no smell.  Once the unit was opened up, there was an opening of nearly a square inch that had not been covered up to the outside, so air was being pulled in through the outside and powered cement from my wall.  The technician rejected all those ideas and stated that he was very busy.


Also said that people like me seemed to think that just because we bought expensive airconditioners, we thought we could ask for support when we wanted.  Re-iterated there was nothing wrong and left.


I called back the dealer.  Was then told that the technician had a difficult job, was out in the sun a lot and by inference that it gave him the right to say whatever he wanted.  Said that he would send a person who would open the machine and I should have someone available when the person came to put POP to close the hole.  Re-iterated that his person could not wait and hence I should have the POP person waiting for the hour because as we all know the technicians are very busy people.


I had the POP guy wait but the technician did not show up.  Its now been a week.  Got the gap sealed up from outside which has improved things significantly.


Overall, the a/c is good, but there are no showrooms that are easily accessible from Gurgaon, and the approach to service is that the customer must wait till the busy technician (the word busy is used a lot, from the dealer to the technician to the technicians-assistant) is available.


I needed to replace 2 split a/cs in my house. I will certainly not take the next one from Daikin.
