Actually this piece is not on dahanu but bordi. bordi is a small sleepy town very near to dahanu. in fact since most of the trains do not stop at gholwad (nearest rail station to bordi) the most convenient way to reach bordi is by getting down at dahanu (well connected with mumbai) and then take a state transport bus or autorikshaw.

this is a very small sleepy town with sea on one side and lush greenery of mango and chikoo orchards on the other. in fact the most beautiful thing about this place is that there is absolutely nothing you can do in this place. so for average city dwellers this is the perfect place for a canm and quiet weekend.

i'd been there a couple of times. the best way to reach from mumbai is to catch the saurashtra express (7.45 at mumbai central and 8.07 at dadar) in the morning. this train stops at gholwad and saves lots of trouble later. you reach gholwad at around 10.30 or so. take a rik and you'll reach the place in just 5 minutes.

then it is absolute peace. only problem with the place is that there are very few place to stay. though some new resorts (in old bunglows) have come up, the best place is the resort of maharashtra state tourism development corpn. but it is a small one and it is always better to book it in advance to avoid any problem after reaching there, particularly if it is a weekend.

one unique thing about the place is that during low tide the sea moves a long distance away. only during high tide it comes nearby. normally that is around 4 pm in the afternoon.

the best thing to do after reaching there is to take rest without trying to have a bath in the sea (remember you have to walk a lot then). after a little afternoon siesta get geared up for the water when sea will be at your doorstep.

while coming back you may come to dahanu and catch a virar shuttle (atleast once in an hour). but again the best thing will be to to catch the 8.33 virar passenger from gholwad which reaches virar at around 10. then it is city life as usual
