I must say I was happy with TATA SKY till recent times but not as of now. The reason is they re arranged channel packages in such a way for HD Set Top Box viewers that you shell out much more extra bucks for the same. Read further to know the tricks they play:
Earlier I used to pay Rs.100 per month for accessing HD channels(only 9 when others scaled up to 15) called HD GOLD. For example If I choose Dhamal Mix pack I pay Rs.200 for about 120 channels including free regional channels. And an additional Rs.100 for 9 HD CHANNELS that included 1 English Movie channel, 1 English Entertainment Channel and 1 Cricket Channel, 1 Hindi Movie Channel apart from other Hindi entertainment channels.
Now what they did is they removed this pack and said one has to pay Rs.100 as access fee as part of accessing HD broadcast of any channel in a given package as facility(I don't know what). So now for accessing all the 9 HD CHANNELS I have to subscribe along with the base pack(say here for example Dhamal Mix Pack that cost Rs.200 per month)+ English Entertainment(Rs.60 per month)+ English Movies(Rs.60 per month)+ Sports(Rs.50 per month)+ HD access fee(Rs.100 per month). So you have to shell out Rs.470 per month for the same channels or go for some higher pack at Rs.410 which would be Rs.60 cheaper. So You are forced to opt for highly priced and yet unwanted channels or pay even higher to get the channels you want to see. What more is they even usurp the balance amount you paid for HD GOLD pack for one month.
This is nothing but pure cheating the existing customers. I paid Rs.100 for HD GOLD pack on 1st of the month and they made changes to the pack with effect from 8th of the month and forfeited the remaining amount. When I called up their service center, they said that amount is gone. Now for amount less than 100 I am not willing to go to court. I guess many others also do so. Imagine the amount they accumulated in this manner and cheated existing customers.
TATA SKY keep doing such things through out the year. I must tell you the way they installed HD set top box. They came and installed one that did not work from second day. When complained they promptly came next day and took away the new box and put up an used box. When I said it is used box, they said it is how every DTH operator works and they don't have new set top boxes. Imagine my status. You pay nearly Rs.3000 and you are with a used set top box where the USB drivers doesn't work either.
I am not saying that their quality of broadcast is bad but their way of doing business is wrong and their business ethics are also poor. I am really disappointed the way a TATA Company is working.
If you want a HD DTH, then go for other service providers like Videocon or Dish but not TATA SKY. Here you pay more and get less.
