Does DHI Hair transplant work?. Review on DHI Hair Transplant Clinic - Bangalore

Off late there have been a lot of ads from companies showing before / after pictures of patients with a transformed look. I also saw the global company DHI advertising the transformative result of the dashing cricketer Virender Sehwag.

When I see Sehwag on TV, he appears to have very few hair. So I thought that DHI hair transplant did not work for Sehwag. Most companies make faslse claims anyways. But then I searched the internet to see if Sehwag’s transplant with DHI had actually worked. I found this video coverage from a news channel that showed Sehwag’s results and the whole world going gaga about the ‘chamatkar’ about the transformation.

So obviously DHI result was fantastic. But I was wondering why Sehwag lost his hair in subsequent hairs.

I spoke to several doctors and exerts and finally got my answer. IN a hair transplant, hair from the back of the head are extracted and put in the balding area. They only take hair from the back as this hair is permanent and does not ever fall off, even when it is transplanted to a new area. The hair on the rest of the scalp falls off sooner or later as it is a natural process.

I learnt that Sehwag had done his hair transplant at DHI in January 2009, and the hairs were transplanted mainly in his hairline. In the video link above, Sehwag also said that he needed 1-2 more procedures later for full coverage. But because of his busy schedule and because he was happy with the result of first procedure he did not do . As per experts, Sehwag’s DHI implanted hair were permanent but he continued to lose hair from the rest of his scalp.

Now the results in this could be photo shopped but then how can one explain Sehwag’s images in the video? In the India TV video, Sehwag pulls back his hair and it clearly shows that he has gotten his hair back. In fact it is very clear that this is his own hair and not a wig,

To be sure, I searched on my own online and found two more photos of Sehwag from 2008( before his transplant) and a more recent image from now, where he has lost his hair.

Sehwag’s 2012 photo compared to the one before the DHI transplant, show that his hairline( DHI implanted hair) are still there. So it seems that Sehwag did get back his hair through DHI after all and this hair is permanent.

The experts told me one thing very clearly: that hair transplant is a very complicated process where technology and the skill of the surgeon are very important in giving a good result. He said that most clinics sell wrong expectations to patients and their doctors aren’t skilled enough to deliver the results that they show in their ads. So, it is very important to get a consultation done and ask as many questions as one may have on the expected results.
