Why is this coming out freaky? On the review panel it looks ok.

DD Sports Olympic coverage is rubbish. Far too frequently live

coverage of events is interrupted by

studio talking heads. This

evening their studio linkman introduced some Colonel as an expert in

athletics.

Maybe he is. Maybe he’s just an expert in some aspect of warfare. Either way,

the linkman

then skimmed over athletics to ask the said'expert' about the boxing and

such.(Does he think

boxing is a track or a field event?) Whatever this Colonel’s area of expertise is, he certainly did not

know

much about TV broadcasting, because he addressed all his replies to his

interlocutor, not the

camera. The net result was that viewers were treated to several

minutes of some side-faced

mumbling, when my guess is that like me people tuned in to watch some. er, yes, some sports.

That is not the worst example I could give. On the first day

of these games I watched the mens road race cycling event. I watched for hours – well, it is a 245 km event. With just 12 km to go coverage gave way to adverts, thence to talking heads. Finally, one talking head

announced that Sanchez of Spain had won the race in a thrilling finish. I

persisted viewing wishing to see this despite the dreadful spoiler. Coverage finally resumed,

but was again terminated before the end of the event which is something

nobody watching DD Sports ever had a chance to see.

Brilliant. Who do they employ as studio editors? Is it babies?

DD Sports is a sports channel. We know that because it's got "Sports" in its name. Sports coverage should

therefore be its specialist subject. Some joke.
