D-DAY :- GRIPPING AND FEROCIOUS

Although I had disappointment in 4 of Nikhil Advani's previous flicks namely KAL HO NAA HO, SALAAM-E-ISHQ, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA AND PATIALA HOUSE, yet I was inclined to go for this one and finally Nikhil delivered. Here's a movie which is quite unusual and wit a divine integrity within itself.

The standard of Bollywood movies is on a rise as after the heart-wrenching THE ATTACKS OF 26-11 by RAM GOPAL VERMA earlier this year, this is another flick that deserves a clear thumbs up and in the must see list although this seems fictional than real.

Where do I start?? Everything is done superbly here. The 1st half sets-up the movie brilliantly to unfold what is breath-taking in the 2nd half.

The way that the film is set-up deserves lots of accolades. The way the whole thing is portrayed is just spectacular. Within the 1st half an hour, you are of the opinion that this is going to be some serious film.

The whole plot of the movie is about bringing home India's most famous enemy Iqbal Seth back to India. 4 RAW agents have a big mission in hand. Will they succeed or will they succumb to a tame defeat just like many others?? This is what the movie is all about.

Iqbal Seth, also known as Bhai and Goldman lived a luxurious life in Karachi. The Don as they said was gonna attend his son's wedding. So Wali Khan (Irfan Khan) thought it was an ideal time to catch hold of the master. Wali Khan was an agent sent to Karachi by the R&AW chief Ashwini Rao (Nasser).

Wali was a simple man who loved his wife played by Sri Swara and son Kabir. He would do anything for his son.

Wali meets Aslam (Akaash Dahiya), Zoya (Huma Qureshi)- RAW explosives expert and Rudra Pratap Singh (Arjun Rampal) and here is the team of 4 on a mission. They all have had bad experiences with their own life. Zoya had differences with her husband Mohan played by Raj Kumar Yadav. He isnt seen in the movie except once as a desktop background.

These 4 start their pursuit for achieving what no one could ever do. Amidst all this, Rudra comes across Shruti Hassan who plays that role. PAIN is the word that describes her story. They share a lot of intimacy and pain. A track worth a mention.

Editing is one of the highlights of this film. Aarif Sheikh and Unni Krishnan have done a tremendous job especially the scene in which Arjun Rampal shows what Shruti Hassan would have gone through in the end. It seems so real. A full movie could have been made on this track and plot.

The story of the 4 RAW agents going to grab "India's Most Wanted" is worth a go here. It seems totally fictional but yet is hard and gripping to say the least. The screenplay by Nikhil Advani, Suresh Nair and Ritesh Shah is picture-perfect. They bring about life in each character with utmost perfection.

There are some beautiful dialogues which we would like to hear again and again especially the ones by the Goldman towards the end of the film. It sends out an important message for our country. Cinematography is very good here. The locations are good to see.

I would give a lot of credit to Nikhil Advani for some brilliant direction. He brings life in each character and the pain and miseries in every character's life is a treat to the eye. He has tried an action-thriller for the 1st time and succeeds immensely. Also, a lot of credit to him for the kind of cast he set-up. Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is good but only if you here it in the movie. Dhuan is a superb song and well-written by Niranjan Iyengar. Alvida deserves a mention for the beautiful voice of Shruti Hassan. It depicts pain.

Coming to the acting, I don't have to say much. With the caliber of actors around, you got to be in for a special treatment. IRFAN KHAN- the name is enough. He is a gem of an actor. He so easily portrays such a difficult character of Wali Khan. I just love to see him act.

ARJUN RAMPAL- Though I am not a big fan of his, I would say he does the role of Rudra Pratap Singh, an ex-army man superbly. The distraught he faced in his life was clearly seen. RISHI KAPOOR- Class personified. He totally looks like a DON.

Even at this age, he acts so well which is incredible. His last speech literally brought claps from the audience. HUMA QURESHI- Again, a very difficult role played wonderfully. She is just brilliant as Zoya. Even looks good and has a bright future. SHRUTI HASSAN- She is the one who impressed me a lot in a short role. Playing that role is by no means easy, but she expressed pain right throughout.

Really loved her screen presence. She knows she has suffered and she accepted it and moved on. AKASH DAHIYA- He was good as Aslam. NASSER- He played the role of RAW Chief confidently. His dialogue delivery has lot of variations. SRISWARA- This new-comer played Irfan's wife and she does know how to act. Good beginning. Rest of the acting cast was also good.

There were a few scenes which seemed unwanted but then, no movie is perfect. This movie is just worth a go for its hard-gripping action. It comes up triumphs in almost every field. You are in for a 2hr 25 min treat with this movie.

A very highly recommended and definitely a best Film 2013 nomination candidate. Also, awards in the acting department for a few.

D-Day is a great march forward for Bollywood. Our film industry is on the rise with some fine stories and good young actors.

Would love to see more such kind of movies. I would easily rate it 4/5. Definitely worth a go. Highly recommended even with those few flaws.
