Homemade lip smacking khaana… Tucked away at chowpatty in a corner just before the ‘Kulfi Center’ is a small homely vegetarian dhaaba-Crystal. It’s been in existence since the 1950s. The owner Kamal Khanna an elderly gentleman who addresses his customers as ‘bachchas’, welcomes them with a smile… Started off as a snack joint it is now THE PLACE for old Kishore and Rafi’s songs, old furniture, high ceilings and mouth-watering vegetarian grub.
Being the cheapest restaurant serving home made food on Chowpatty-Marine Drive, it is frequented by college students, working executives and families in hordes! An array of dishes priced from Rs.5-Rs.45/-. The Crystal Thali is unlimited thali at Rs.45 a must try if you enjoy thali. My favorites at Crystal are gobi parontha, palak paneer, dal and ofcourse the kheer.
A filling meal for two will cost about Rs.100. Now where in today’s world will you find hygienic, homemade food with a touch of love at such a reasonable price? Only Mr. Kamal Khanna and his wife who handles the kitchen can do this!! Finally…Crystal has a seating capacity of 60 people but a waiting time of 30mins at peak times.
So ensure you reach as soon as they open which is from 12pm-4pm in the afternoon and 7pm-11.45pm. Bon Appetite!
