This good looking and Rs100 cheaper than Usha, Pedestal fan from Crompton greaves is a direct import from China. Be careful before you take a chance.
The worst part of the fan is the GEAR BOX that makes the fan swing side ways. The very first gear in the gear box (a worm gear that rotates off the main shaft from the fan motor) is held in place by a small plastic ring/housing. Even the slightest problem in this ring can make the worm gear slip. This completely stops the fan from swinging.
The fan worked perfectly for first few weeks, then it stopped swingin when the fan was tilted in extreme positions. gradually it started swinging while faced straight. Great after sales service from CG's local contact. The guy came next day, replaced the gearbox. The new gearbox worked fine for few days. Then the story started repeating.
Finally I opened the gear box and analyzed. The all plastic design is too dependent on the quality of the wheels and housings/rings inside. Small error here and there puts the entire operation at stake.
Summary: You are buying a product that has absolutely no guarantee of performamce. Stay Away.
I learnt later that CG imports such fans in large numbers from China (at very low price)..probably the left overs are sent out to CG.
