Guillermo del Toro who is known for blockbuster hits like pacific rim, hell boy series and pan’s labyrinth has directed the latest Hollywood horror movie crimson peak .His movies always carry creativity around it be it design of the creatures, monsters or the visual effect they were always loud and attractive but the screenplay in his movies were always average, so today I will be reviewing  his latest horror flick “crimson peak”

THE STORY:

The story is set during the year 1901, Edith Cushing the daughter of a wealthy American businessman meets a stranger named Thomas Sharpe  and falls in love and gets married to him, lady Lucile Sharpe who is the sister of Thomas Sharpe is also the protector of her family’s dark secrets, Edith has got a unique ability to communicate with the dead, she gets moved to the house of Thomas Sharpe which is located at the top of the mountain of blood red clay and it is also a place filled with dark secrets and mysteries which will haunt her forever as the movie progresses Edith encounters with the dead and tries to decipher the visions she is experiencing and she soon discovers that the true monsters are not them but it exists in the form of flesh and blood

My experience:

I was very much looking forward to watch this movie because I never miss to watch Guillermo del Toro movies I personally loved the cuteness of pan’s labyrinth, the brilliance in pacific rim and  heavy action hell boy series, but when I discovered that he is coming up with a horror tale I was very much excited to see what’s in the stores, so I booked the tickets for crimson peak on 19th October at sathyam cinemas in Chennai and I couldn’t wait for that day I was that excited, so when the movie started I soon discovered it has brilliant production values and the visually it was outstanding, there is a lot of creativity in each and every frame of the movie, the film is no doubt a visual feast for the audience and by this time you might have thought u are going to have a different experience and I would say no the reason is the cheap plot surrounding the movie, it will make you guess what will happen next and this gets tiresome and boring but you cannot take your eyes off screen and can’t leave the theatre as the visuals arrest you throughout the movie, after watching the movie I didn’t feel connected to any of the character in the movie and felt  disappointed and wondered why such a creative and one of my favorite director adopted a boring screenplay, performance wise everybody did a great job, wish the movie had plenty engaging and suspense moments .

Overall I found the movie boring yet can be watched once if you are a fan of visuals.
