Indian Fans will be disheartened after the world cup because India will not be there in the top 4 teams, based on their current form and team selection. By not picking up Dinesh Mongia and R R Powar, the selection team bungled India's chances of reaching Semis but compounded it by selecting Sreesanth, Karthik and Sehwag.
Now the relative strengths of the possible 11 players from the top 8 countries is: South Africa(546), New Zealand(533), Australia(478), Sri Lanka(474), England(451), India(434), Pakistan(430) and West Indies(423). So, India is not in the top 4 teams.
If they had taken Dinesh Mongia(58) in place of Virender Sehwag(29) and Ramesh Powar(51) in place of Kumble(36), their points would have gone up by 44. Then India would have been at a level of 478, on par with Australia and would have reached semi finals.
For those of you who are interested in these points: This is a computerised system(created by me) that measures each player's performances(runs scored, balls bowled, runs conceded, wickets taken and catches taken / stumpings made, all as a% of total in a series).
Indian ODI performances in 2006-07 are: S C Ganguly(60), Dinesh Mongia(58), Tendulkar(56), Powar(51), Uthappa(43), Dravid(40), Dhoni(39), Gambhir(38), Harbhajan Singh(37), Kumble(36), Zaheer Khan(36), Munaf Patel(34), Agarkar(33), Pathan(33), Yuvraj Singh(30), Sehwag(29), Karthik(21), Joginder Sharma(19), Suresh Raina(19), Mohammed Kaif(19), R P Singh Jr(17), Sreesanth(17), Jaffer(7) and V V S Laxman(0). The names of 15 players selected for world cup are in BOLD. Average Value of Indian player is 39 points. Jacques Kallis measures 81 on this scale. So, he is worth more than 2 Indian players.
Indians should not feel bad. Their team will not be in the top 4. Be prepared.
