CRICKET is one of the most liked and popular sports in the world but what makes the game so special in India? What makes it so differant here than anywhere in the world?I think it is the people and the enthusiasm surrounding it.Cricket is supposedly a passion,a quasi-religion in Indian and Sachin Tendulkar the God.Cricket is not merely about a bat and ball, not even about winning or loosing it is first of all about the people-about the hysterical fans who have made it what it is today and who will continue to make it what it will be in the future.

I am myself a die-hard cricket fan and nothing in world excites me or keeps me engaged then a game of cricket.Excitement,Electricity,Enthusiasm and mass hysteria that is cricket for me.I also love the game coz it is so unpredictable,it keeps you involved and keeps you guessing who will win in the end.It is to the credit of this remarkable game that we got the opportunity to witness cricketers like Sachin,McGrath,Brian Lara,Jonty Rhodes,Wasim Akram and Saurav Ganguly. For me their is no better site than see Tendulkar smash a ball of Mcgrath or Jonty Rhodes Latch on a spectacular catch.I love everything about the game and can watch it for hours and yet not get bored of it.Can you believe I have recorded innings of some players and I keep watching them when their is no cricket happening? But for me cricket should be played in all fairness and the right spirit, doesn't matter who win's or loose in the end.The other thing I love about the game is the commentry.I love listening to people like Tony Greig,Boycott,Ravi Shastri,Ian Chappel,Ian Botham and Bill Lawry.Infact at times when the game gets boring I keep sitting in front of my T.V set to listen to these people. My word,i love cricket and everthing associated with it and to think it is just a game involving a bat and ball the impact it has on people is amazing.

Infact it is my love for the game which made me go to Mohali and watch the match(India-England test match)live. It was the first time I watched a cricket match in the stadium and the experience was amazing. The atmosphere was electric with people shouting, cheering and clapping.Really one has to be there to feel it.Watching the game on T.V and watching the game live is so different. There is no commentry,no replays and no commercial breaks yet it is so enjoyable. Most of the people in the stadium had come to see Tendulkar perform and really when he came out to bat there was hysteria, people got up from there seats and started clapping and cheering him.I really think that one should go to a stadium to see why cricket is a religion in India and Sachin is refferred to as God.I enjoyed watching all the players but to see Sachin Tendulkar play was like a dream come true.He was a treat to watch. It was a wonderful experience to be in the stadium with thousands of people and to think it was a test match between India and England,i wonder what happens when India and Pakistan play!

I also went to Mount View, the hotel where the players were staying just to catch a closer glimpse of them and also to get their autographs.Naseer Hussain(the England captain),David Gower(he was such a nice person),Sunil Gavaskar,Harbhajan Singh,Yuvraj singh,Mark Butcher and Sehwag were the ones I got to meet.My only regret was that I couldn't get a autograpgh of Sachin but then their is always a next time.

Amidst all the controversies and scandals that happened in the past, the game of cricket has emerged victorious.None of the negativity has prevaded the sport.Nothing can tarnish the image of the game coz it is much bigger than the players and their deeds.CRICKET IS A RELIGION AND RELIGION NEVER FADES.

Now my only wish is to watch India -Pakistan match in South Africa(in the coming World Cup)with a Indian flag flying in my hand and my face painted with the tri-colours.Now that would be some experience.
