CRICKET: What a bore!!!
Apr 30, 2007 10:21 PM 2013 Views
(Updated May 06, 2007 11:32 PM)

After the end of much hyped event(ICC WORLD CUP 2007). The only conclusion which I can come at is that the game of cricket has turned out to be a bogus and Boring event over the past few years.

Like all other Indians I also use to be a Lover of this game, but the recent turn of events in Cricket has really costed me my genuine interest in this game. It's not just India, but simply because of the fact that no team has been teamed upto beat the world beaters Australians.

Ausralians **after losing 1996 WC finals fought very hard and one by one blew the Indian Subcontinent teams in the next three successive World Cups.(1999-Pakistan, 2003-India, 2007- Sri Lanka)

*The most ironic situation was that all the teams before the finals looked pretty solid to beat Australia but all turned out to be failures when they faced  Australia and all three WC finals were one sided.

If  you leave these events and just take into account CRICKETas a game you will find that **this event has become more predictable with less of variety.

From Variety I mean that you always have one country touring other, there is no charm left of Club Cricket, or County matches.Like in Football besides World Cup you have, European Championship, UEFA cup, FA cup, English Premier League, Copa America etc.

All this shows that Cricket from it's very ground level is losing its competitiveness**.

Take this:

No one is bothered of Ranji Matches in India.

County Cricket has become a thing of Past.

SA cricket almost receives negligible Audience.

Even Australian Domestic cricket has started receiving less audience what actually it use to receive before.

The verdict is clear that Cricket is a dull and a boring game.

Last event which was very  interesting was of course the ASHES 2005 and AUS-SA ODI series in which the last one-day saw records being broken.

But since then  no interesting events have taken place. ASHES 2007 was clean sweeped by the Aussies, Champions Trophy was won by them Following the World Cup.

India again as expected lost the test series in SA after taking lead, same happened in WINDIES ODI series.

South Africans again chocked at the crucial stage which they are doing since 1992. Shoaib Akhtar as usual got injured before the start of event.

Isn't it a sign of Monotony?

*Now take this:

*Football- 2006 World Cup won by Italy.

2004 European Championship won by Greece.

Defending Champions of UEFA Barcelona are out this time.

Manchester United  close to winning the English Premier League Title.

Now, why shoud we waste our time in 8 hr. long game Cricket where results almost follow a same pattern instead of watching Football which has a variety to offer and is also less time consuming.

*Why should we not follow the NBA which is full of action and competitiveness ranging from Chicago Blues to Miami heat to Dallas Mavericks.

*Even in Hockey . there is a monopoly but there are at least three countries among which this monopoly exist Holland, Australia, Germany. At least the titles keep on rotating among these three countries not like cricket where it remains in same hands.

There is also Rugby  but I can talk about only those games which I can understand.

Moreover wherever Cricket is played(Except Indian Sub Continent) every country gives priority to other games like:

*New Zealand-Rugby

South Africa-Football, Rugby

England-Football

West Indies- Baseball, Basketball, Football(**Varies from island to island)

SO, the onus is upon us we have to ask ourselves are we doing justice to other games. Is there any replacement of Cricket.

Only we have to find the answers.
