Cricket World Cup which is on in South Africa these days. Cricket is a game of luck and there are many imponderables, which can affect the outcome of a match. It is not a must that a good player will make hugh scores every time. It is not unthinkable that a tail ender who is not a recognised batsman can hit a sixer. If cricket were such a predictable game, then why not rate the teams without playing? West indies which used to be a powerful side in the days of stalwarts like Sir Gary Sobers, Wesley hall etc, went through a very bad patch. England has been passing through a rough patch in the last few years. Bangla Desh shocked Pakistan in the last World Cup.

It is very disheartening to see the loads of abuse being heaped on the Indian Cricket Team by the Indian public after they lost the second match to Australia. Reading the messages being sent and being aired prominently to various TV channels one feels ashamed. The very people whom we are willing to carry on our shoulders and raise them to the sky in praise after one victory, are pounded and dragged in dust after losing a match. Agreed they did lose badly, to Australia, but can you say it was deliberate? Did Ganguli want to lose? Is he happy about it? Did any team member want to lose? No! It just happened. I can assure you he and his team are as miserable as all of us. Ok forget it. Period. Start preparing for the next match in real earnest. TV channels proudly displaying the belittling and disparaging remarks of people who have no better work need to be admonished.

It is time to raise the morale of the team and tell them that we are with them and they should play with a positive attitude. In good times even your enemies become your friends. Only those who are with you in times of need are your true friends. This is the Indian cricket teams hour of need. They need words of encouragement and support and not brickbats. By deriding and ridiculing them, do people expect their performance to improve?

Give them a break yaar! Boost their morale. Encouraging them before the start of the World Cup was not as important as it is now when they are down in the dumps. Lift their spirits., build up their confidence, reassure them, cheer them, comfort them. After all it is a game and there have to be losers and winners.
