Teeth – the final frontier to MouthShut. These are the voyages of my “teething” experiences. Its life-long mission – to boldly go where no hand / brush has gone before.

I have 32 of them. Luckily for me, I had no encounters with Mithunda and did not have to listen to his punch line “ battisi daanth tod ke haath mein rakh doonga” (loosely translated – the dialogue and not the teeth - I will break all your 32 teeth and place them in your hand).

I had my share of visits to the dentist – and since my health plan allows me to freely choose the dentist – I always choose the “right one” – wink, wink. Now come on – if I am going to be tortured, at least let me drool.

The Story so far…

I have used all types of “stuff” to clean with – monkey brand kaala danth manjan, vicco vajradanti tooth powder, charcoal paste, salt, sand, pulverized brick and the regular tooth paste. I have also used various tools – the “neem” branch (I call this the “two-in-one” – paste cum brush), soft brush, hard brush, flat brush, pointed brush and the finger too (the later was an emergency tool for those times when you wake up in strange places – samajhnewale – bin ishaara samajh jao). (Translation: For those who can understand – understand without gestures)

But at all times, I was incharge of the brushing angle, force, torque, speed and acceleration. I used to define “height of laziness” as a person who brushed with a motorized tooth brush.

All this changed when I came across Crest Spin Brush…

It was more of an impulse buy – the local grocery store was selling them at a discount – 2 for $9.99. It was a tempting offer which I could not resist.

I bought it and used it and am amazed at the feeling and the results.

The Spin Brush:

The Brush itself is similar to its manual counterpart with a handle and head. Two AAA batteries are located in the bottom of the handle and can be operated by a sliding switch in the middle. The switch has two positions – one for continuous movement and the other for stop and go.

The head has two components - a circle of moving (rotating) bristles at the top of head and fixed bristles towards the lower half.

How to Use:

You use it exactly as you would a manual brush. (Initially I was under the impression that I just had to hold the brush and it will do the rest… sorry). While the lower half of the bristles brush away, the rotating top portion helps in plaque removal and massaging the gums.

The feeling after every brushing session is identical to the one after your annual teeth cleaning visit to the dentist. So basically you are getting a professional dentist like cleaning on a daily basis.

Cleanse the brush as you would the normal manual brush and take care not to submerge the battery compartment in the water for too long.

A spare head is also provided and can be easily replaced. So is replacing the batteries.

Moti jaise daanth (Pearl like Teeth)

Teeth cleaning is great and effective and also reduces the need for dental flossing.

Since the feeling is so good, I find myself looking forward to brushing in the AM and PM. This would be a good motivation tool for the kids – so that they develop healthy oral care habits.

Even if you are skeptical about using an electric brush, I would strongly recommend you to give this a try and you will see the results for yourself.

Brushing will never me the same again – you will become addictive. Similar to MouthShut. But you will be proud to have your MouthOpen , once in a while.

Happy Brushing.
