Cross country bank
Jun 08, 2001 04:00 AM 3065 Views

A few weeks ago I got an offer to get a Visa gold from this bank and since I didn't have a gold card I figured I would go ahead and get it.

I went online to apply for it and there was a$35.00 fee when you first get the card. I gave them my routing number and bank account number to debit the fee from there. I by mistake left out one digit in the account number but did not realise it at the time.

So thinking it was all taken care of I sit back and wait for my card to arrive. What I got was a letter saying the bank had declined my debit card payment.

I called Cross country and asked what this was all about and they said I did not have enough digits to my account number so I gave it to them again and they said they could not put it through again as it had been turned down twice by my bank so there was a$20.00 fee each time for another$40.00.

I then sent them a check by mail for another$35.00 and added the amount back to my checking account since they said they could not put it through again.

Next I get my credit card and could not activate it as they had sent no pin number so I called them again and was told the pin number would arrive within two weeks. It did not.

Back on the phone to call them again and now another person tells me they would activate it right then which they did as I went to the bank locally and drew money off it to make sure it worked.

Now I get notice from my bank they had sent that debit through again twice more and another$40.00 charged to my bank account for fees. I have overdraft protection but they zap me with a fee for it.

So now I have paid out a lot of money to get this card and to be able to use it.

I also received a letter that I had overpaid my account and that because of it they were raising my limit. However with still a good amount of balance left on the card I try to charge some thing on line and my card is denied. I need to make another phone call to try and straighten this out again.

On top of that I get another statement telling me I owe another$35.00 if I do not get it straightened out soon I am going to tear up the card before I tear my hair out.

I also realised they charge 25% interest which is higher than the rest plus a$100.00 fee per year and a$50.00 fee per year and another 39.95 per year for insurance on the card. I would say this is the most expensive card I have ever had and from now on I will get cards only from local banks.

Another one I have had problems with is Net 1st so be careful of the cards you get online. I have not had problems with other ones.

I put this under this category because considering all that I have paid I consider this a financial hurt for sure.
