I was looking for a handy portable good quality music player but with some added OOMPH! After searching on the net for a few months I decided to go for the Creative Zen Vision M 30 GB. Although I was a bit apprehensive about the choice as the Indian mp3 player market is dominated by apple products, I got myself a Creative Zen Vision M(now onwards mentioned as ZVM in this article) 30 GB. There is a vast range of products from creative but I wanted to buy something that could stand the time. I didn’t want to buy a gadget that gets out of trend in a few months. Also, I can listen to all of my favorite songs, or watch my favorite movies which I carry in it with me always. 30 GB is phenomenal! Even though there is Creative Zen Vision M 80 GB in market but that was too dear for me.
The player is very much user friendly. It is based on Windows Media Player interface. If you can use the WMP, you can easily use the Creative Zen Vision M. the keys are easy to use. The Display id very bright(se below for the comparison picture of ZVM and Ipod Video). The sound quality is very good. Although the ear phones that come with the standard equipment are not up to the mark but still make the sound great. There are 6 different color themes you can choose form. Besides that you can put the pictures of your choice as the wallpaper. The pictures can be viewed in thumbnails or full screen view depending of the choice. All that goes on without any interruption to the music playback. I attach the ZVM to my car cassette stereo through the 35 mm jack on the ZVM and hence save the cost of installing a CD/MP3 compatible player for my car. Besides there is no danger of the Music player being stolen from your vehicle as it always stays in your pocket. Also there is an integrated FM tuner to add to the Fizz! There is an inbuilt microphone that records with an average quality(but I guess very few of us actually need to record something like songs from the FM).
The software that the Creative Zen Vision M comes with is very user friendly. The device shows as a Plug-n-Play device even without installing the ZVM software. File transfer speed is good. All you need is Drag n Drop the files to the destined folder. The player can be attached to any TV with the AV out. The battery life is good. Gives me a video play back of about 3 hours uninterrupted! The audio usage tends to last significantly longer. This tiny ZVM gets charged through standard 5 volt USB port.
Also to mention is that the Creative Zen Vision M comes with a special Password protection for the folders. If you want to be discrete with those people who share your player you can do that easily!
Why I called this as an IPOD BEATER? Simply because it does so! And that too with panache! The display is brighter as compared to the ipod. [PICTURE 1] It is not itunes based that makes it very user friendly. Besides that you can set your own wallpapers in the menu. [PICTURE 2] It also costs less than an equivalent model of IPOD video.
No wonder, Creative Zen Vision M has won the BEST OF CES 2006 in portable video & mp3 player category, the BEST OF CES 2006 in show category, and the RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2006.
Now I carry this tiny gem with me always, on jogging, while traveling, in my car.
