Crazy/Beautiful - PG-13 - New to Video/DVD

A girl from a rich family is under the spell of a poor Latino boy.

The Story:

Nicole Oakley (Kirsten Dunst) is on garbage pick up duty at the beach when she first meets Carlos (Jay Hernandez) and his friends. She got into trouble at school and garbage pick up was the price. When they find out what school she goes to they realize that Nicole is a rich kid.

Nicole and Carlos meet again at school. He commutes to this “better” school because he is serious about his education. He is trying to get a football scholarship from this high school. Nicole, on the other hand, is a free-spirit. She is always trying to get a rise out of her teachers and her parents, especially her stepmother.

Nicole and Carlos start dating. Carlos’ mother is unhappy about her son hanging out with a girl who parties too much. Nicole’s father tells Carlos that his daughter is trouble and if he wants to make anything of his life he’ll steer clear of her. Carlos is torn between these two worlds. Nicole is struggling to trust others and finally does with Carlos. But will love prevail when the odds are stacked against them?

About the Movie:

Crazy/Beautiful was written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi and was directed by John Stockwell. Kirsten Dunst played the part of the troubled teen a little bit too well. Overacted I mean! The character got very annoying to watch. Always acting drunk and flailing her hair around was irritating. Her performance did get better as the movie progressed, though.

Jay Hernandez was sensational! In his first lead role he really made an impression! He was believable in this role of a struggling young man. He also had great chemistry with dunst.

I would recommend this film, but will only give it 3 out of 5 stars. That is a so-so rating in my book!

Enjoy!
