Cleansing Action:

I have been a Costco shopper for many years. You cruise through their isle of laundry detergent which sits side by side with name brand detergents such as Tide. They have 3 formulas at Costco you can purchase under the Kirkland label.

The first product is the Environmentally friendly line which comes in a gallon sized bottle and is meant to rival the other environmentally friendly products such as Eco's and Seventh Generation.

I have purchased this product and it works at getting my clothing clean. It is scent and color free. It rinses cleanly from your laundry and leaves no noticable residue behind. It contains no noticable optical brighteners and would be the perfect degergent for those sensitive to such ingredients. However, if you are into optical brighteners and very bright whites, this may not be the detergent for you. If you are into natural products, this rivals many on the market and I feel does a better job than a good share of them. I find that many of the natural detergents just don't measure up to mud stains, and ground in dirt stains, etc.

The second product is the laundry detergent that comes in the big plastic tub. This is the product I have purchased multiple times as I am a budget shopper. For$14 you can purchase a 200 load bucket of this detergent. This is a no frills laundry detergent. It has a light citrus scent but the fragrance does not remain in your clothing after the wash. Your clothes just come out of the laundry smelling fresh and clean but not fragranced. The detergent comes with a scoop and the largest amount is for 1/2 a cup of detergent. I can sufficiently clean my laundry using 1/4 cup of detergent. I wouldn't say this detergent is the "bee's knees" or anything but it works. It gets out MOST of the stains in my laundry, with the true test being my white athletic socks which get very dirty since I do a lot of hiking and nature trail hiking. If I am mindfull, I can get about double the loads out of bucket as I half the recommended dose of detergent. I live in a soft water area and depending on the hardness of your water your results may vary. This is a low sudsing detergent perfect for front loading machines as well. Don't expect to see suds when you use this detergent, and the lack of suds does not determine how effective this detergent is.

The 3rd product is the ultra laundry detergent. I have purchased this in the liquid form. This is supposed to rival Tide detergent made by proctor and gamble. This product works very well but you must be very careful to pay attention to the lines inside the dispensor cap. It is easy to overdose on this detergent as it is very concentrated. I fill it up to about the bottom line on the cap and this washes a large load in my top loading machine. I find this product rivals Tide detergent and does an exceptional job of cleaning. Consumer Reports just came out with their detergent reviews again, and for the "no name" detergents such as Tide, Wisk, Gain, etc. This one rates as one of the top detergents. It is budget friendly but a bit more expensive than Costco Kirkland powder in the big bucket. I have found with this detergent it isn't strongly fragranced and your clothing comes out clean and fresh without the scent competing with any perfumes or whatnot you may wear.

Overall, I like the Costco Kirkland brand detergents. They sufficiently clean your clothing without having to use a ton of product and they are budget friendly. I don't think they work quite as good as Tide, but considering the fact that they are about 1/2 the price of Tide or Gain, I will continue to purchase when I am watching my budget. For the price, Costco Kirkland is an excellent product line.
