A favourite with hardcore food lovers who come here to gorge on the delicious flavours, aromas and, the charcoal Grill sees packed capacity both on the split and mezzanine levels at all times. If it rains, the crowd inside gets gustier and hungrier!
The smooth floral motifs, cloth and mache artworks and subtle elements are understated: a setting perfect to unwind and expect the surprises that Akash Borkar, the sprightly and energetic manager, promised me.
Though I settled for a pepsi by the glass, I graduated to the sparkling delight Marquise De Pompadour towards the end just to toast the finale. Akash was modest in allowing me to make some choices. The test was up his sleeve. As the Murgh Seekh Bharwa (cardamom-scented chicken mince with creamy mint and coriander) at Rs. 160 made its way to my table, the aroma was all inviting. I then selected a vegetarian kabab, Panner Kurkuri (Rs. 150) and a dash of Tandoori Mushroom (Rs. 150). With the mint chutneys aiding the tastes, it was a great feeling.
Charcoal Grill, though renowned for its wide variety of kababs and grills, has excellent non-vegetarian curry specialities like Bhuna Gosht (Rs. 170), Mahi Kaliya (at Rs. 350) and Kareli Ki Nihari at Rs. 180. For vegetarians, they have Dum Subz Handi (Rs. 140), Khumbh Makai Paneer (Rs. 140) and the all time favuorite Methis Malai Mutter (Rs. 130).
With good choice of parathas, rotis and naans, the food can get a little too filling. Keep space for some great Biryani also. Their Chicken Biryani (Rs. 190) and Subz Biryani (Rs. 135) are quite highly rated. The dessert was traditional, fantastic and uplifting?small jalebis, washed down with blobs of rabdi.
Copper Chimney also attracts corporate climbers and business crowds in for their lunch spreads and is a virtual hobnob spot for celebrities and media lights.
A meal for two would cost between Rs.1200 and Rs. 1500 at the most, that is if you skip the beverages. Copper Chimnay-Characoal Grill at Andheri. Definitely more than kababs and tandoor. And worth the visit. Highly recommended. That`s as modest as I can get.
