Hi there guys/gals

The review is going to talk about “ how you can have fun in coorg in rainy season aka monsoon?”

travel date : 1st july 2005

Point of contact ; bopanna ph no.-09448788860

When I wanted to go to Coorg I tried to find out hows and wheres about it , the only reply was that it will raining like hell in coorg and so no point going this time of year even the major tourist websites advice against it.

Well you should not go to Coorg if ;-

1) You are not young at heart

2) If you hate adventure

3) Hate monsoons

If you not all above then what are you waiting for pack your bags this weekends and have a trek to Coorg and believe me you will love it better in monsoon then in other time of year.

If you go any other time of year Coorg is same as anyt other hill stations you have ever visited same old beaten tracks of famous monuments ( made glorious by travel guides)

The real fun lies in the monsoon.

The Journey

Me and my friends Siddharth just so decided on Friday to give a drop to Coorg , so went to bus-stand and got ourselves a ticket from Bangalore kempegowda stand.

The bus was at night 11.50 and took 6 hours to reach coorg at 6.00 in the morning.

We Saw this hotel “East end” and decided to drop our bags there .At first we thought the hotel was shabby , but later started to like the informal ambience and also came to know that ppl from other hotels come for food since it has the best food in medikeri and we guarantee that .The booze is dirt cheap 20 rs for a 60 ml of romanov ( dirt cheap )

The whole medikeri was mist covered and it drizzled occasionally ( it doesn’t rain for more than 10 minutes in strech ,believe me) we sat there in the hotel veranda having our cup of coffee and toast butter .It was relaxing and fun to lie like lazy animals enjoying the beauty of it .from 8 till 12 we sat and chatted in between enjoying the inner peace it gave.

Then I Contacted Mr. Bopanna ,owner of crimson eye resort to tell us places we can go , ther were usual local stuff of rajas seat and tomb , fort , but we were fed up of it and decided against it

Then he uttered the magic word “Rafting” , and we on our foots ,went to dubare for rafting the fees was 800 first we thought pretty high but when they said that it will cover 4 hours of actual rafting it was a petty sum.

The rafting is exhilarating experience through the forest and rapids of Cauvery “MIND YOU RAFTING ONLY TAKES PLACE IN MONSOON IN MEDIKERI”.

The rafting made our day after that trip to the Buddhist monastery was good .The nisarg dham was very mediocre place ,or may be we felt so after the rafting experience.

Rafting was bit tiring so we returned to hotel at around 7.00 and then freshened up .The dinner was best part where we interacted with other ppl in the hotel and had out wine .

The next morning we had decided to go to abby falls. They a trip to coorg is not over without a trek in natures trail. But in rainy season can you trek in those leach infested forests of coorg with mud flowing down hill? Well you cant ( we tried but ave up after two leeches and a slip in the mud).

But we were spirited so we decided to go abby falls on foot (8 kms per side)

It turned out great the small tar road leading to abby falls has coffee plantations with small wild plantations in between , sometimes you cross a view of the magnificent valley of coorg , the trail was magnificent .Those of lesser heart can take a auto for 150 bucks which will take them too and fro .

The culmination of our journey was rewarded by the magnificent abby falls . Through the coffee plantation you reach the falls which are green and fresh .

The fall itself is refreshing with mist rising from it bathing you in dew.

The trek is one of the best you can have in medikeri in rainy season .

We didn’t visit any of the places mentioned in tourist brochure apart from abby falls.

If medikeri is Scotland of south in summer then in monsoon it is paradise on earth

If you go alone or in group medikeri has something for everyone

So what are you waiting for ,pack you bags and leave the river and the falls are waiting for you.
