Coorg being close to the western ghats has the same flora and fauna as Kerala. Lush green surroundings with huge jungle trees which are well preserved unlike Wynad(where the Jungle trees are chopped off to make way for the tea and coffee plantations.)

For a change my family  opted for a Home stay at a place called "Pompei valley" rather than stay at a resort or Hotel.  What they call a Homestay is not exactly what it is meant to be, a room let out in a house. Instead,  they accommodate you in cottages or rooms built inside  the plantation.

Our cottage at Pompeii Valley was very tiny, had an asbestos roof  which was not suitable for the summer as we felt like we were being roasted in the afternoon. So we decided not to stay indoors  and visited many places. The room itself looked like it was a servants quarters. Bad flooring and not well maintained. They are very reluctant to make food but the food itself is not bad.

As many of the reviews already  mention various places to visit in Coorg, I will skip that and suggest various other options for a Home stay and Hotels.

We drove around to a few other Home stay places just to check out the accommodation and rates.

Here are a few

Rain Forest Retreat;- The name is very apt for this place as it does look like you are in the middle of a rain forest .It is probably the most sought after Home stay In Coorg. Has lovely cottages in a beautiful plantation.A small stream runs through it and the owner a PhD in Botany takes you for a walk through the plantation every evening. You get homecooked food, including the famous Pandi curry. Rates are reasonable Rs 2500/- including all 3 meals.(Wish we had stayed here) You have to book atleast 15 days in advance.https://rainforestours.com/

Forest flower**:- Situated in Sunticoppa. There are 4 cottages and a Villa.  The cottages are done up nicely but are all grouped too close together. There is a 1 1/2 km of very narrow road that leads to this place. Rates are Rs 1800/-, Rs 2000/-, Rs 2800/- and Rs 5000/- depending on the size of the cottage. https://forest-flower.com

Filaa:- There are big sign boards of this place everywhere. It is actaully a resort in Madekeri. They have Delux and standard rooms and cottages too. They had a shortage of water though. The resort has a swimming pool( which was not well maintained), a kids park, an old pool table and so called gym. The rates for a Delux room is about Rs2400/- for a night without food. There are many such rooms all of different rates . https://filaaholidayresorts.com

Veerabhoomi:-The owner of pompei Valley recommended us this place for lunch. Very pathetic place situated in Kushalnagar. Desolate and barren unlike other places in Coorg. They promise cultural events throughout the day but it was not so. They have small cottages. Not sure about the rates but definitely a depressing place. I had the worst Biriyani ever made here.

Coorg International:- Has no fancy landscaping but offers all the facilities that a 3 star Hotel offers. Definitely a good option as there are rooms always available. A standard delux room is Rs3500/- including all meals.

Usually June, July and August is a not a good time to visit Coorg as it rains heavily, infact some places are closed during this time. April and May will be as hot as Bangalore if not hotter. Carry your hats and loads of water.

Places to see around Coorg;

Abbe Falls: Breathtaking

waterfalls.

Tibetian Monastry: Biggest

Buddha Satue in South India

Kaveri Nisarga Dhaama: Elephant-ride

and boating

Nagarahole Wildlife Sanctuary:

One of the best wildlife sanctuaries in

India.

Dubare Elephant Camp: Elephants

training camp.

Thalacauvery: Birth

place of river Cauvery .

Thadiandamol Hills: Higest

peak in Coorg .

I  didnt have the time to visit the other places but I believe Alath cad, Hilly side estate, Orange county, High falls Holiday are all good places to stay at. If you would like to check out more places go to https://travelcoorg.com

Coming back to Pompei Valley, I wouldnt want to go back there. Though the owner Mr. Thomas and his wife Saritha  are friendly. They could do a better job of maintaining the place and perhaps even invest a little more into redoing their cottages.
