?! I too writing a Book Review !?. Review on Conversations with God - Neale Donald Walsch

Getting the Book

As every one in this forum has started to write reviews on books, I too am trying my hands in it through this review. This is the second book that I read since I started the habit of reading books recently and I must say this has been the most inspiring book so far. Once I was just roaming around Landmark I saw this book titled ?Conversations with God? written by Neale Donald Walsch. The title immediately grabbed my attention and I went through the synopsis of the book which sounded even more interesting.

Me Reading the Book ? Others Opinion

When I started speaking about the content of this book to some of my friends they started to laugh at me and even my mother asked me not to read such books and said these kinds of books are only for retired old peoples. After hearing all these I was really worried and realized that what NDW said about the present materialistic world, way of children?s growth, people?s mentality and maturity are absolutely true. Every one of us sometime in our life has asked any or all of these questions asked by Neale Donald Walsch to either ourselves or to others. If you have not yet, it is evident that you have not yet realized even that there is something called Self realization which is the main purpose of our birth in this world.

Not a Novel

This book is not a story teller like Paulo Coelho?s ?The Alchemist? and doesn?t take help of a narrative format to infuse the content into our mind, rather it proceeds like a simple conversation between two co passengers in a train with one being the God himself and the other is of course you, me or generally the reader disguised as Neale Donald Walsch. It gets the message directly into our mind without spending much time for carving a story that has every message that author is intended to tell and also saves our time as we don?t have to decode the story and interpret messages out of the incidents in the story. The book has three parts each expanding the scope of the subject as Personal Truths, Global Truths and Universal Truth.

Simple Facts and Complex Analysis

The book is full of stunning facts and principles of life and tries to explain complex realities of this world rather universe as simply as possible. The best thing is that the author chooses some of the very earthy daily routines as example to explain and prove what he is trying to. You cannot read this book continuously like a novel, each and every quoted line needs lot of analysis to understand, accept and relate to it. Take this book as a serious task and a daily routine, read through some pages and involve in lot of analysis and relate it to our day to day life and you will wonder how true all these words are.

What Not?

The author touches almost every other aspect of this universe like personal life, man - woman relationship, evolution of male dominance in the society, emergence of fear of God, birth of evil, birth of money, the difference between love, marriage and sex, our society, culture, lack of spiritual knowledge, religion, caste, national and international politics, terrorism, science, materialism, meditation, nature, after death effects, cause of dreams, connection between body and soul, about highly evolved living beings in other planets, their culture and tradition, their practices, about time and distance, now-and-here concept, relative theory in every other concepts and many more.

Style

The English is simple and straight forward. I really liked the confusing and yet clear quotes that God makes all through the conversation. Reading and rereading these lines to understand the meaning in itself is a mind game and a pleasure.

Life changing book??

Each and every fact about everything takes us into a new perspective of looking the world. We will feel that why haven?t we thought about all these before? This book as advertised is a life changing book but in reality it will affect only those who take it seriously and even one may find fault in it if his intention is only to do so. The learning from the book depends on your intention of reading the book. It is not a self help book and it may not revolutionize the world or even a single mind all of a sudden. The book can only make us give a thought and induce introspection about all being said and that is the single drop that the book can pour to fill the ocean of changing this world.

Cons (Nothing Significant)

There are lots of dichotomies in the book which will puzzle us many a time but the author himself says that the utmost realities are all contradicting dichotomies to justify it. The answer to one simple question that everybody may easily ask while getting into such discussion about ?Who is God?? itself is puzzling. And also just for the sake of writing it like a casual conversation, some of the dialogues seem to be silly and forced at some places.

Looping the Concepts

To register the concepts deep in the minds of the readers, the conversation often deviate from its main discussion to previously discussed topics repeating the same stuff again and again. But it cannot be said as a con and it is very much necessary because it is very difficult to understand the concepts in very first reading and in the course of reading you may forget the initial ones which form the basis of the later concepts understand, accept and relate to.

Suggestion

Better go for the third part of the book directly. Because it clearly explains all those dealt in first two parts briefly for those who read the third part directly and I am sure you will not miss anything even though if you skip first two books.

Final Note

Get this book and make reading this book as a habit. Even if you finish the book, don?t throw the book aside, the questions will arise again and the answer will be there in this book in some page.

Why This Review?

I don?t know what made me to write this review at this instant and almost two months after reading the book. I have tried many a times to write a review on this book and I was thinking to present it in an innovative way but I couldn?t and I don?t know why. The review that I have written now is just a free flowing thought and I am sure it will not best justify the book but I think I can?t do any better.

If I have to write a review on this book to my satisfaction then I have to release a book on the same. The time has arrived and the review has been written. See, even this small incident has kindled lot of thoughts and analysis in my mind and that is the effect of this book. With this, I admit I am going to start reading the book again.
