If, like me, you know absolutely nothing about your computer except how to switch it on, then Computeractive is for you. It includes a computer news section, that looks at latest products out, recent virus alerts, and scams going around. There is also a page which takes up readers complaints with computer companies. Computeractive contains reviews of software, books, downloads, and equipment. There is also a problem page for you to get help.
However, the most useful part, in my opinion, is the workshop section. This contains step by step instructions (well illustrated) to a number of tasks. Recently, they have explained exactly how to fit a new hard disk, but easier workshops have included how to burn a cd, how to create a backup, and how to copy vinyl and tapes to your hard disk. It is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to do more than simply write letters with their computer. Computeractive is written in simple terms, with a column down the side of each page explaining jargon.
Computeractive is £1.20, but if you take out a subscription, and choose the best offer (they change in each edition) you can get it for less than 80p! What is not included is cover disks with useless programs that you don't know how to work. What is included is good, solid information that helps you make better use of your PC.
