This is my second laptop. My first laptop broke after it had issues with Nvidia GPU problems. Visit here for a detailed review of my old laptop: https://mouthshut.com/review/HP_Compaq_3149AU-141693-1.html. You can find more articles when you google.

I wanted to go for AMD as the performance of my first laptop was impressive.  After a weeks search I decided to settle with CQ45 112U powered by new AMD Athlon X2 processor released Aug2008.

Specifications:

AMD Athlon XP 1.9GHz.

2GB RAM

ATI Graphics

DVD Writer

WebCam

FingerPrint Scanner

FreeDOS.

This model is for poeple who like to work with OpenSource OS. HP recommends Windows VIsta and one can decide to purchase if interested. One can download  Windows Vista drivers from hp.com. If you planing to run this on WindowsXP., then that would be nightmare. HP has officially not released any dirvers for this model. You will have to google and hack for drivers. This is a big pain. check this site for detailshttps://sethuma.com/2008/11/my-new-baby-compaq-cq45-112au-review.html. One can try installing OpenSource OS like Ubuntu, Fedora on this. This requires more efforts.

Review:

The perfomrance is rock solid. It does not take much effort to work with Photo editors, media encoders, encrypt softwares. You will be disappointed as its heats up a bit compared to Turion when the processor is in full throttle. ATI does great job playing HD movies. You can now connect this to a HDTV using HDMI.

The harddrive is quite roomy with 250GB in store.

When processor is fully loaded, fan spins and this is not silient.  The battery backup is not that remarkable. You can get a max of 1.5Hrs of backup with Wifi turned on.
