Write a comment to make MS lively. Review on Commenting on Reviews

I am enjoying very interactive new features of MS but at the same time I am missing the old flavor of this site. Now I can observe lot of interaction in Diary post, Photographs, and Exchange of gifts but review writing by members, rating and comments taking a back seat.

All these thoughts came in my mind when I read a very good review on Discovery of India and found it not rated by anyone after 5 long hours and a good review written in 2005 but not rated till August 2008. I can see very high read statistics per review but not rated at all. So many members going through a good review but not rating it is not good. Due to work pressure I too can not go through all the post in MS but I have decided to spend some time for review section so that I am in touch with new reviews, topics and interact with the members.

My humble request to all members is to go through the reviews for RRC(read, rate and comment). Encourage the new members to write better reviews, keep encouraging oldies so they often drop by to contribute. I know this is an era of SMS, so cannot expect a huge review followed by a huge fitting comment. However a short 400 word review followed by a 15 words comment is good enough to keep this forum more vibrant.

According to me a funny/ witty comment, a well thought comment; even a light comment is as good as writing one review. It is tool to interact. We should use it judicially and in a much matured manner.

*Why we should write a Comment?

•   Comments are useful when we disagree with a member who has written a review or an article on some product. We have all the right if we disagree or write something more than the reviewer has mentioned in that topic. We may also highlight few errors in the review by writing a decent comment.

•   In many cases, one may simply wants to encourage/ motivate someone to write more meaningful reviews. A comment should be decent enough and should not create any controversy. One should be matured enough to understand the feeling / sentiment of the fellow members. Comments are not to hurt anyone but to express our views.

•   Welcome a new member / reviewer with an encouraging comment to keep his moral high and to let him feel homely.

•   A good comment also justifies our rating concept.

•   An uncalled-for comment can hurt all the members, so we should be careful. Our one line comment carry lot of importance. So it is better to choose the words carefully.

*Some Pointers:

·    Never write a comment to maintain good relation with fellow members. Let us honest to ourselves.

•    A positive criticism is good for our own growth / improvement. One should have enough courage to tolerate positive criticism.

•   Witty decent comments are always better

•   Comment is most essential when we disagree with an opinion.

•   Encouraging comments always cheer-up a member to write better reviews. A pat on the back always keeps the moral high.

•   Most important is the appropriateness of the comment like the review itself.

•   A responsible comment will always alert other members, not to consider a fake claim of a reviewer. It’s public domain so vendors or business houses may write a goody-goody review of their product to mislead members. An alert member can easily warn all members by a sensible comment. Can even alert MS Management.

•   We must not use abusive language

•   We must not ever be racial in nature

•   No way should a comment be personal in nature.

•   Avoid groupies attitude or polarization.

Friends, let have a fusion of old and new and make MS a more interactive and enjoyable site.
