Any Comments?

Comments make a review interesting. Probably reviews make commenting interesting too.

Irrespective, fact is, quality (of review) does not necessarily have to have a correlation with the response (no. of comments) it receives. Number of comments are a direct derivative of few factors, which I have analyzed through deep research & intense observation in last 2 years. There was a time when getting comments were considered to be prime parameter of importance.  Thus scoring a century was a big deal. Afrank & psyxx opened that avenue; Amrita took it to a greater height (without even replying her comments). After some time a double ton was also made achievable by members like psyxx, sudipto33 who, with their magnetic titles, humorous delivery & friendly charisma created humongous responses.

How much comment is too much?

Most readers may not be aware that there are around 5 double tons scored till date & fresh members hit century comments every week. Silently enough, 500 & 1000 plus comments have been crossed in single reviews as well. Amazed? Surely, MS is not the same place anymore. Getting comments has reached new volumes. If you are a writer who feels that you write well but still never cross a double-digit comment, don’t you worry! Your time is here & now.

There may be likelihood, with this plethora of comments inflow that single review can achieve 50000 comments or more. At this stage it’ll be a challenge to write a review & receive less or no comments, unless you follow my advice here. The day is not far when the fad will be to get less comment, as those members will stand tall among centurions & double centurions. Less will be niche, posh & cool. Less will be more.

Opal Mantra- How to get fewer comments

Who the hell you are

The ability to attract responses starts from the ID & the profile itself. It is worthy to note alpha-numeric IDs normally sounds less interesting & dull. Does mb07 ring any bell, unless you know who he is & what he writes on? What if shyamnambiar was russian1973? Or Indian1969 was desperado? Am sure psyxx would have been less exciting as Rajeev34. Sudipto33 & The_Reviewer are exceptions, which proves the rule. A blank profile page with education “Professionally qualified cost accountant”, interests in “ Epistemology, Fallibilism & Etymology” & a description like “ easygoing, hate back biters & animal lover” or “..fond of eating, love non veg & children“ would do the trick. No pic is better than anything else.

What the hell you are writing on

Any current Holly/bollywood movie release, popular best sellers would always fetch readers’ comments. Avoid those topics altogether. Movie stars, Metro cities, popular travel destinations like Goa, Las Vegas, Darjeeling, Egypt, advices of popular topics like interviews, Indian traffic, bringing up kids, all 5/ 10 best & worst movies, songs, movie-scenes, actors, actresses etc are hence avoidable. Go for obscure foreign cult films, example- Ran, Boondock Saints, Taxi Driver, Butterfly Effect - it would bypass the intelligentsia. Next, pick up books like Umberto Eco’s Foucault's Pendulum, Roger penrose’s Shadows of the Mind: A Search for the Missing Science of Consciousness, Sigmund Freud’s Civilization & Its Discontents or something more obscure like Ashok Mathur's Once upon an Elephant. Except people like sumit_only & Indian1969, chances are no one would come to read such topics.

[ let me know if you need to source such books]

Write like hell

Frequency of reviews has a genuine influence in getting readership & responses. Reading reviews take time, commenting on them takes further time. Considering a conservative average that an active MSian RRCs 8-9 reviews a day , s/he would probably skip reviews every 2nd or 3rd day on the topics mentioned in paragraph above. Imagine when you are suffering an indigestion after a Freudian slip & then had to RRC a movie called “Freddie got Fingered”? Scary, no? Keep posting, don’t care about responses. Believe me, a day would come when you will reach zero ratings even after 2 days !

To hell with the community, this is a review site

Back scratching is what produces more responses. Nip this problem in the bud. Stop going to other’s reviews, stop rating, even if you happen to read occasionally, don’t rate NU even by mistake. Stop replying to other’s comments. Don’t encourage repeat comments or attempted chat sessions. Occasionally pick one or two odd members in your comment section & give a harsh & unwanted reply like “ This is my review, my thoughts, please don’t feel obligated to comment or reading my next review as a compulsion”. Create a sense of repulsion in the community. If it doesn’t work, switch to philosophical banters. At no time should you indulge in controversial topics. Controversy fetches publicity.

Abscond

Suddenly vanish from the scene. Don’t RRC anything. Disable M2M. Give people enough time to forget your existence. How many remembers Sheermelody or Criminal? A handful probably. MS runs on the same circular principles of life. Newbies would take place, fresh camaraderie would be formed. If you are lucky you will be forgotten with time. Then come back & start writing again.

Disguise

All advises given above may fail if you are an old & famous member like afrank, walking_dude or magicalsummer. Even they return after 2 years they would be read & commented upon. Next alternative is to stop writing on your original ID, create a drab duplicate & start . Put the Juggernaut to deathbed & dismantle the brigade. Remember to follow the advise on profile creation, topic selection frequency etc. I know at least two of the famous & superhit writers who had miserably low responses with their new ID on their reviews.

Freedom is a curse: The more free time you spend on MS, more visible you are; the risk of getting responses increase manifold.

Remember the following rules-

1.The intensity of your activity in MS is a direct function of your idle time at work/ home.

  1. Every dog has his day.

To get busy in life try the following suggestions-

1.If you are working, consider a job change with greater workload.

2.If you are a bachelor/ spinster- consider getting into marriage/ affair.

3. If you are married - have children.

4.If you are insomniac- take part time job as Taxi driver or a radio jockey.

5.If you are a student – immerse your PC into bucketful of cold water.

6.If you are a part of MS Management- smile please.

It may be interesting to note that few of the above mentioned advices can help to get rid of your darned “star mark” too.

Ps:In case you are a newcomer to MS & you don’t want to be niche, posh & cool try following exactly the opposite of what has been said here.
