We were deciding on hospital for our delivery. The criteria was first and foremost good treatment, secondly proximity, thirdly if i could go in and be with my wifeand supports her at the time of delivery, fourthly a doctor with expertise an whom we could call and go to at any time and lastly a cordial hospital. We visited dr. Anamma at st. Johns medical collage. Bangalore.

Visiting st. Johns was a one day affair to just go for a check up. It further freaked us out when we asked dr. Anamma for her number and she declined to give us her number andgave the hospital number instead. My wife was in her 4th month when she had some spotting and we tried calling the hospital to reach dr. Anamma, the taped answer was "this number does not exist" and we had to call "just dial" to trace the hospital number. After which we called the hospital they refused to transfer the call and gave other numbers instead on five

Different occasions. Finally we reached an operator who transferred our call however dr. Anamma was not available and we were hung up on. Hence we decided to change the doctor and the hospital because it did not fit into almost all in the criteria list mentioned above.

This incident insisted us on changing both the doctor and the hospital. At the precise time a friend suggested columbia asia and dr. Vijay sherbet. On visiting the hospital the staff was very cordial and arranged for a tour of the place. It indeed looked splendid and we were happy that we chose the place. Then we met the dr

And she seemed to fit the bill too(just talk to her and she will blow you off your feet). We closed on having the deliver in columbia asia and dr. Vijay sherbet as doctor. Fifteen days prior to the delivery when we

Visited dr. Vijay sherbet she insisted that there is a 2cm dilation and it surprised her that my wife didn’t have pain and she asked us to get geared up the next day and have the delivery. However the next day there was no pain and no indication that the pregnancy was close, so we chose to call the doctor and explain the

Situation and she agreed that we could wait. On the due date we had gone to columbia asia and they were having a packed house. We were shifted to the labor room once the bouts of pain started. I was surprised in the labor room when i noticed that no arrangement was done for a deliver and was afresh from the previous. Then the team comes in and the team consisted of a nurse and dr. Vijay sherbet. As i had mentioned the hospital was running packed and so were the labor rooms and then the team was reduced to the dr

Herself and the nurse started multitasking between the labor rooms.

The hospital was seriously short staffed. The dr. Advised me to switch off my phone however calls on her mobile flowed and she took all of them. There were points in the ordeal when the dr. Advised my wife to not push during few contractions just to attend a phone call or to ready things for the next move. This was ridiculous. There was no screen in front of the labor room and there was insistence to keep the door ajar, the room was in full view to any one who opened the front door, people entered the labor ward and left this included men as well. Some cared to walk away while some looked as if they learning a new lesson in biology. I insisted on a screen at least and finally after another labor was done we got their screen. Then the doctor started getting clueless because the head was on the right side of the womb. At that moment another doctor gave a simple solution by lying in the left side. This worked and the process continued. The child was showing a little apprehension in entering the big bad world however on a contraction i had seen the crown of the baby’s head and that’s when the doctor said the pregnancy is getting complicated and insisted on a c section. The irony was two contractions later the baby was in our world. If we would have gone in for

A c-section it would have dangered both the baby and the mother.

After the labor is done the doctor informs relatives both the mother and baby are well and addresses the delivery as complicated, however i would say this was far from complicated and just good expertise and our woes did not stop there; my fatigued wife wanted to use the toilet just after and was left to herself inside the toilet. One hearing her screams i ran to the toilet and got her on a wheel chair. We were given a four sharing room since there were no single rooms. My wife was in pain and just when she was about to fall asleep, when a kid was bought into the four sharing room. The poor kid screamed all night into the morning and we did not sleep a wink. They say sleep works wonders in healing however here they intended to skip that. The next night we had complications like changing a blood soaked sheet, feeding our hungry child and cleaning of the shared toilet. The nurse calling bell was rung however there was no one to

Attend.

Finally when we got a nurse after raising the brow, she mentioned the hospital is running full and also they had informed the housekeeping but they did not do the honors. The next day i went down and demanded a discharge, to which the pr person rushes to my complaint and i had told her that “hospitals should ensure that the patient feels safe and we don’t feel safe any more” , to which she mentioned she will address all our problems however none were addressed. We insisted on a discharge again however the doctor came in and said you can go but it would be risky. So we stayed on for the next day but the same prevailed.

What we lost was sleep money and security of our two lives.
