Toothpaste is toothpaste, there isn’t much more one can say really! Or is there?
Well, yes actually! Pop down to your local supermarket and check out the huge range of teeth cleaning products, they fill shelf upon shelf with them! So how on earth do you possibly choose which is the right toothpaste for you and your family?
I spend a lot of time with my dentist, as I have calcium deficiencies, which mean my teeth suffer big time. I’d spend more time with him if he didn’t charge as much as he does! We talk about toothpaste a lot, well, we’ve covered family, holidays etc so I suppose it is inevitable the conversation always reverts back to teeth! His opinion generally is that one brand of toothpaste is very much like another but recommended I use one which contains whitening ingredients (I drink far too much black coffee and have been known to smoke the occasional cigarette!), fluoride and ingredients that prevent the build up of tartar and plaque. But pretty much every brand these days contain very similar ingredients, and all the well-known brands also offer toothpastes that help to whiten your teeth. So I asked my dentist if there was one thing in particular I should look for. He nodded, and said….’taste!’
Colgate Whitening toothpaste is delicious, it’s the main reason I choose it over and above all the other whitening brands. So many others taste so strong that the taste lingers and anything you eat within a few hours of brushing your teeth tastes foul, especially soft drinks! Colgate’s flavour however, is very fresh, very minty but milder than most others I’ve tried. It leaves my teeth feeling smooth and clean and my mouth feeling very fresh for hours after brushing.
It contains a ‘Microcrystal’ formula which is designed to help the toothpaste get into all the tiny nooks and crannies between each tooth for more effecting cleaning. Plus fluoride to prevent the build up of plaque and tartar that could lead to eventual decay. One note however, is that if you’re using fluoride supplements, you should consult your doctor/dentist before using Colgate as you could end up potentially overdosing! Children should also be supervised when using this product, and should use no more than a pea-sized amount, twice a day.
Another plus point is it’s packaging, the tube itself. Many brands have tubes that are very stiff and can split quite easily. My poor mother has very arthritic hands, and squeezing these unyielding tubes can be a real struggle (and painful!) for her. Colgate’s is very supple and flexible, with a light vinyl feel almost, that she finds very much easier for her hands to cope with.
And if you want your Colgate to be a bit more versatile, try these tips. Use a small amount as a temporary filler for any holes in your walls, it dries to a rock hard finish and is ideal for holes left from removing picture hooks etc. Plus, a good friend reliably informs me that he uses it to clean stains off alloy wheels, and nothing else does the job more effectively!
Colgate have been manufacturing tooth hygiene products for over 100 years, so is a name you can trust. And it is alleged that one in four people in the world use a Colgate product regularly. It’ll do for me!
