I am usually not given to read long books about someone's personal struggles since I find these stories to be better suited for a magazine story. Still I picked this up after my daughter told me it was an award winning book that too a debut book by Charles Frazier which increased my hopes. Overall the story is about a soldier making a long journey to meet the love of his life which is an interesting aspect but the way Charles has created this is a bit too tedious for me and I would recommend it only for someone with lots of patience!
The journey follows flashbacks of the soldier's life and the way he met his wife and their life prior to the war when he was called away from home, interspersed with the scenery of the mountains he is traveling through. On their own, both sections are interesting but after a while, one craves for some action and gets nothing. It is as interesting as watching paint dry! Same kind of conversations and description of nature makes it feel like we are patients in a hospital forced to watch the same channel on TV as we dont have any remote to change the channel!
I would have liked the novel to be crispier. Still, for those who want long endless prose in their books are welcome to read this!
