Let me mention at the very outset that I am a coffee aficionado. Which means that I like my coffee well made, robust and rich. And being a true blue Tambram, I swear by my morning cup of filter coffee. It is as close to a perfect cup of coffee as one can get. And really, no other coffee even comes close.

Having said that I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with the coffee at Café Coffee Day. For starters, all their coffee is made the traditional filter coffee way ie. the decoction is made using a filter. Thereafter, this decoction is used to make the different kinds of coffee on the menu…cappuccino, mocha, espresso, latté…They use freshly roasted and ground Arabica beans (The coffee powder for filter coffee is also sold at the CCD outlets. ).

Anyway, my first visit to a CCD was on a really hot day in Pune. I went to the CCD located inside the MusicWorld outlet just off Moledina Road. It is not a very big place and was very crowded and noisy. We didn’t get a place to sit and there was a bit of a wait at the counter as there were only two attendants. Also, I found it strange that the staff kept pushing the granites at customers…odd, considering it is a coffee bar and people therefore walk in for coffee.

Anyway, I ordered a Vegan shake and my friend had a cappuccino. The Vegan Shake was lovely. It is basically cold coffee made with decoction and soya milk(so its low fat) and lots of ice. It had a rich coffee flavor and was wonderfully smooth and easy. Also very refreshing on a hot day. The negatives…quantity wise, extremely meager. The glass was full of ice cubes and there wasn’t even 100ml.of coffee.

The cappuccino was good too. Very well made. But they had used Plantation A or B seeds for the coffee. I think, to make a really good cup of coffee, it is important to use good quality coffee beans like Peabury. But I guess most people are not as picky as I am about their coffee ; my friend certainly wasn’t!! :)

We also had some lovely paneer tikka sandwiches and a scrumptious, really gooey brownie with ice cream.Great stuff.

All in all a wonderful experience. And one that I have thereafter repeated several times over in Mumbai.
