This website and its courses are definitely avoidable if one wants to go into the depth of subjects rather than just doing it for the sake of it. Codecademy gives very basic and introductory level familiarity with the coding languages and frame works.
The knowledge gained by it doesn't seem to be useful anywhere in the industry. It might be good for kids to get to know what it is like to code, but for people who mean business, this is just a waste of time.
