Just returned from Club Mahindra resort at Sasan Gir, oh what an experience. A perfect resort for nature lovers wihout sacrificing on amenities and comforts. Stayed in one of their "tents" which are very good except that there is no provision for microwave or a cupboard. A little cramped living out of a suitcase. The staff are very polite and helpful. The resort manager Mr Aggarwal is very friendly. The food is excellant with a good variety at every meal. There are good entertainment programs planned every evening. Well, being located in a Junge there is a one of chance of a Cobra lurking in the resort lawns. At times you do feel the aftershocks of earthquakes as a fault line exists just 1 km away from the resort. The lions too venture out in nearby villages for a night meal of cattle. You hear of it the next morning though. But all that is part of the excitement, however the infrastructure outside the resort is pathetic. The approach road is BAD thanks to the tussel between the forest and tourism departments. Trying to obtain a permit for the lion safari is quite an experience. One needs to stand at 3 am in a queue of 300 visitors for 50 permits issued by the forest department for the 6 am safari. Pathetic to say the least. Getting an advance permit thru the resort is advisable though one needs to plan for it atleast a month in advance. These are some of the pains in an overall excellant place to visit. The resort is small with around 30 rooms/tents but well managed and a good holiday experience.
