Cloud 9 - Avoid energy drinks.

From past several months I am regularly going to my gym (five days a week) One of my gym mate in our health club offered me energy drink Cloud 9 & assured me it is free from alcohol. He explained me some multiple health benefits of natural energy drink.

I had heard about some energy drinks like Red Bull.I dont like energy drinks. But I was anxious to know the pros & cons of energy drinks. Because today the energy drinks are the coffee of a new generation.

Cloud 9 is India's first natural energy drinkfromGoldwin Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. This energy drink was launched by Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on October 2008.

The companies tagline is, it is funky and cool and in tune with any age group, yet healthy. A great solution to today's stressful and hectic lifestyle.Further the advertisements claim energy drinks boost physical activity and alertness. Lift your spirits, Boost your energy, Perk up, Party all night long, Work 30 hours a day ( can you believe 30 hours a day), Be on the move, "Cloud 9" gives you a high you'll never want to come down from & the list is never ending.

Wish these lines were true, but unfortunately not. According to the research studies, Cloud 9 energy drink contains natural energy boosters, guarana (rich natural source of caffeine), ginseng, taurine, pomegranate and vitamin B.

Surging global demand for high-caffeine energy drinks has led to increased reports of negative health impacts linked to the stimulant’s use in beverages, according to a new review.

Researchers from John Hopkins University suggest that the labeling and aggressive marketing of some energy drinks, particularly towards young males, could lead to increased incidences of caffeine dependence and withdrawal in consumers.

Most energy drinks do not label their product with the amount of caffeine. There is an extensive set of regulations regarding composition and labeling with which the industry complies, In fact, many companies go further and label their drinks as being not recommended for children or persons sensitive to caffeine.

Countries like Norway, Uruguay and Denmark had banned energy drink Red Bull for more than twelve years. A number of studies have questioned the safety of the beverage. A study by the Cardiovascular Research Centre at Royal Adelaide Hospital in Denmark, found one can of Red Bull is enough to raise the risk of heart attack or stroke. The study carried out on university students found that drinking one 250 ml of the sugar-free version of the energy drink, increased stickiness of blood which can lead to clotting.

Further Energy drinks can cause agitation, anxiety, irritability and insomnia. Energy drinks have been linked with reports of nausea, abnormal heart rhythms and emergency room visits.

Cloud 9, Red Bull, Gatorade, and other energy drinks are jacked up with caffeine, sugar, and natural stimulants. That combo produces short, intense bursts of energy that only elite athletes can burn off in a safe way.

Instead of Energy Drinks, have a glass of natural juice, which gives you a quick lift without the shakes.
