I am very disappointed with the services of the Citibank and Standard Chartered Bank. The have very badly trained staff, who are impolite and don’t have basic manners. The toll free numbers or customer service numbers offered by these banks are useless.
Until now I have not had even one problem solved by calling the customer service number. They have even less information than the customer. And to top it they speak rudely and don’t even try to understand the problem. They do nothing besides passing you on from one department to the other. When you first call them and say that you want to open a bank account or do some investment, they are very helpful. The even offer to come to you office or you house and do all the necessary paperwork.
But once they have trapped you as a customer it is impossible to find somebody to answer your questions. Nobody will take responsibility and they just keep passing you on from one department to the other. You must have a really big balance to get one personal banker who will service your account and be available for all your questions. If you cannot have a really big account you do not matter to them.
The will do absolutely nothing to give you any extra help. But you will get regular phone calls from their telemarketing department about making new investments. I wonder why they do not spend the money to improve the service for the existing customers. On the other hand I have very good experience with Indian nationalized banks.
The State Bank of India has very quick service – especially the branch in Indiranagar, Bangalore. Although not a lot of work can be done on the phone or the internet – if you call them with a question or a problem they will try to solve it immediately. Even when you actually go to the bank the people at the counters try to help as best as they can. Their service is not as polished as the service of the suit wearing people in the MNC banks but it is genuine. It is about how they can help you and not everything about their bank and their policy.
