Well, here is what Citibank Credit Card folks did to one of friends recently. I present the complete unedited list of emails exchanged between my friend and citibank. Just read through to understand the mental torture my friend has gone through.

He finally got completely frustrated and wrote to the RBI credit card grievence cell - at email address: bomumbai@rbi.org.in. He is still waiting for a reply from RBI.

Read the chain of emails below from bottom to top:

Subject: Grievance regarding Citibank Credit Card

To: bomumbai@rbi.org.in

Dear Smt. Surekha Marandi,

Further to the email I had sent to you regarding my grievance regarding Citibank credit card, I received a reply from Citibank as attached below.

Here they state that my credit history would be spoilt and the same would be circulated to all the banks under the Credit Information Companies(Regulation) Act, 2005.

I wish to state some points in my defence.

1) I was not an employee of Mahindra British Telecom at the said date of the delivery of the credit card. In fact I quit the services to Mahindra British Telecom around September 2001. I do not remember the exact date and month but I do have the relieving letter issued by Mahindra British Telecom. Hence, it is clear that I have not received this card at all!

2) I can ask Citibank to issue me the original transaction slip for Rs.500/- at M/s Hotel Sai Pooja with my signature on it because I am sure I have not done this transaction.

3) I still refute the statement made by Citibank that a credit card delivered at the company address and not being handed over to the concerned individual is as per law.

4) They claim that an add-on card in the name of Mr.Bahutule was issued on this card. I do not have anybody known to me by this name.

Infact I hold another banks credit card and have been making regular payments.

But this threat of blacklisting me for no fault of mine is a very big concern to me.

Please help me in this regard as I do not wish to have my name blacklisted for no fault of mine.

I hope a neutral body like RBI would intervene and do justice.

Waiting in anticipation

Regards

Subject: Grievance regarding Citibank Credit Card

To: bomumbai@rbi.org.in

Dear Smt. Surekha Marandi,

I am a very aggrieved person and wish to state my grievance.

My case involves Citibank and its credit card.

For the last 2 years, on and off, I have been getting calls asking for payments for a credit card issued to me by the said bank. The problem is that I have never received any citibank credit card. For that matter, I have never applied for a citibank credit card.

I have taken up this issue with Citibank and the below email will state the entire problem in detail.

What I want to highlight is that post this email, I have been contacted by Ms.Arti and have been requested by her to pay the principal amount and that the interest amount would be written off.

Citibank claims to have given the credit card at my previous companies reception and says that this is as per the policy guidelines when the delivery address is a company address.

I feel this is wrong and being a individual card and not a corporate card should be handed over to the individual with proper acknowledgement.

I have also asked them to show me proof of the application form of having applied for such a card, to which they plead innocence saying that it would be a very old record and details would not be available.

Please help. I feel I am being cheated if I have to pay even a single rupee. On the contrary, Citibank should be paying me for mental harassment.

Waiting in anticipation
