Here is my story.


I I logged in to the Citibankwebsite using my master card and registered for an e-card. I got my e-card on September 21, 2001. I cancelled my master card in 2003 after paying full outstanding.


II I chose to keep e-card for making payments through the net. But since I had cancelled my primary card, I could not login! Since I could not login, I could not write to citibank!!


Finally I closed my e-card as well. But the late charge, Over limit fee and taxes were charged to my e-card. The collection department kept calling every month. They asked my mom if she was proud of me and if she had taught her son anything about ''Culture''.


III I approached the bank and asked for full and final settlement. The officer immediately agreed and sent me a letter on 17 April 04 (Ref No. 920004/6 signed by Regional Credit Manager. The signature is not readable.) The letter is printed on Dot Matrix Printer with lower half of lines being ''italic''.


IV The letter stated that if I pay 1500, they will let me go. (The language is different, ofcourse). I paid. The amount was received by the bank. But the Over Limit fees, Late fees and taxes are still being charged and the calls at my home have not stopped!


V In the month of October 04, I got a call on my cell from citibank officer (male), while I was in the middle of an important meeting in the office. He told me that the offer mentioned in the letter had expired, since I had made the payment late. I told him that I can give him the date and cheque details if he calls me back after some time. He never called and the number from which he had called could not be reached. But it confirmed that he had the copy of the letter and had knowledge that I had paid as stated in the letter.


VI I sent a letter to Chennai office (P. O. Box 4830 - No office address!) and attached the xerox copy of the ''said letter''. No receipt, no response.


VII I got a call again in November 04. I called and asked for explanation. The lady gave me collection dept. numbers where no one was available to take the call. In the month of December I got a call from Citibank and I told the whole story again. She asked me to fax the letter. I tried to fax the letter for the next 2 days but it could not get through. I called the same lady and enquired very politely to find what's wrong. I was told that ''CITI COLLECTION OFFICE IN ?MUMBAI? HAS NO FAX MACHINE''. The service is outsourced! And when she asked me to fax the letter, she had no idea that the machine is not working since the last one month.
