OK, to start with let me describe how genuine I am. I am with the company for the past 3+ years and still working [with agony.] When it started it had great potential, which was money and infrastructure. But this is a classic example of what happens when good things fall into the hands of mediocre management. Now the points which I mentioned for the ratings.




  1. NE Lab- You will find almost 100% of the equipment required to complete your job.




  2. Office Space- Cubicles were the best when it started, but now it has been reduced but still spacious.




  3. Recreation Room- TT and Pool are available help you fight sleep [when you have nothing to do] Gym- One word, the best. Now to the points why you people are reading this post.




  4. HR- Want to see at one place make a pit stop at CIENA HR. These days Government Departments are better than these people. Some of them act like nothing can happen to them whatever they do, and is it true? sadly my friend yes. Let me elaborate with example. If a technical person[read engineer, senior engineer, module lead and lead engineer] and a person in HR are given work both requiring same amount of effort, the technical person would complete it, but the HR? first they make noise that this is a huge problem, will take lot of time, ultimately they will complete the task when everybody has forgotten about it and then one day they will make it a point that their effort is visible by sending mail to all; organising parties to celebrate completion of this "mammoth" task. The HR head formulated the Retention Bonus program to retain employees whereas all their ads say that CIENA is a great company and innovative, if so why would the company have retention bonus scheme? this company has got no strength in its balls. and when a person decides to leave a company why would he care for this, he will always get a joining bonus in the new company. Such is the brain power of HR dept. April 1st should be dedicated to CIENA HR




  5. Finance Dept- Don’t know why this dept exists, because they don’t facilitate employees; they work like tax collectors.




  6. CEO/MD- About CEO people better Google, worst CEO in the telecom industry, and about MD he is a dictator.




  7. Manager- This a manager centric company, 90% of them have no technical skills and yet another 80% don’t have any managerial skills and that’s what matters.




  8. Principal Engineer- The real architects of the company, they a bunch of jokers, fresher from any reputed college would be more proficient in technical aspects.




  9. Parking- New policy means you have to park your car outside in the sun and dust if you come after 10[I m affected by this or in other words my car is affected.




  10. No AC on weekends- Obviously being a technical guy and professional [equivalent to being a fool in CIENA] I work on weekends to complete my tasks [small tasks when the management views it and with no AC present its like working in a mine. One last thing.






There is no career growth in the company.There is a lot more to be told about the company but may be some other time.
