I worked for this company for around 1.5 years. I was very happy when I joined because Ciena India offers very handsome packages at the time of joining in comparison to its competitors.
They also make lot of promises about the work culture and about the type of work available at this centre. While the reality is that Ciena India gurgaon office is merely a captive unit of Ciena Corporation USA. In India office they just dump their old products for sustenance.
About the work culture, they treat engineers like a radio mechanic, i.e fix 1 bug daily or 5 bugs per week.Everything is acceptable but, the height of everything happened when they layed-off my position without compensating adequately.
On the final day on which they had decided to lay-off my position, HR called me up and asked me tender my resignation otherwise they will give me temination letter in which they will write that I did not perform well. And I wont be able to apply for any company in future. They also promised that even if I resign, all retrenchment benefits will be given as per the offer letter. Giving it a though I had resigned as I wont be getting any monetory loss.
But after one month they sent me cheque with only 3 months basic salary, while the offer letter says about payment of FULL SALARY of 3 MONTHS.
I agree that to lay offs are not some thing new to this industry, but in the times of crises, the employee should be paid proper retrenchment benefits. As in recession only the retrenchment benfits can kep you going for some time. So, please beware if you join this company. As at the time of joining they can offer very good salaries but when they dis-associte they leave you in lurch.
