One of the people in Bollywood who know how to make viewers laugh and entertain is Priyadarshan. He uses his unique style to entertain. And he uses his same style again in Chup Chup Ke and he succeeds!

The story of the movie: Jeetu (Shahid Kapoor) lives in a small town with his parents and elder sister. He had taken a lot of money from the moneylenders in order to start a business. But all his new business fails. And he had no idea how to repay the huge amount of money he had taken. His family members had to bear the consequences of his debts. His own father Jaived Prasad (Anupam Kher) tells Jeetu that it is better if he kills himself. A village girl Pooja (Sushma Reddy) was Jeetu’s fiancé and loved Jeetu since birth. Jeetu tells him to marry someone else, which she doesn’t agree to. One evening, Jeetu commits suicide in the sea. His motive in killing himself was something else. If he would die, his family would get a huge amount of money from an insurance company. From that money, his family members could repay his loans. But fate had different plans for Jeetu. He doesn’t die. He gets entangled into fishing nets of Gundaya (Paresh Rawal) and Bandaya (Rajpal Yadav), who were fishermen. They take him to hospital where Jeetu recovers. Jeetu, in order to play safe, pretends to be deaf and mute. Gundaya reads a note from Jeetu’s pocket, which leads them to assume that Jeetu is a millionaire! On the other hand, Gundaya owed money to Prabhat Singh Chauhan (Om Puri), a Gujarati businessman. Gundaya asks Prabhat for some time in order to repay his loans. Prabhat then tells Gundaya to mortgage something. So Gundaya mortgages Bandaya and Jeetu! Prabhat then makes them both the servants of his house. In Prabhat’s house lived her niece Shruti (Kareena), who was only mute. She started falling in love with Jeetu! So will Shruti come to know that Jeetu is not deaf and mute? Will Gundaya be able to repay his loans to Prabhat Singh Chauhan? And what will happen to Pooja and Jeetu’s family members?

Shahid Kapoor is getting really better with each and every movie. He delivers a fantastic performance here. In Chup Chup Ke, there was lot of fantastic actors like Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Asrani, etc. But though, Shahid Kapoor maintains his strong position. Great Work, Shahid!

Kareena Kapoor was as usual excellent. She does not speak a word in the movie but though does not disappoint. She looked fresh and energetic throughout the movie. Of course when Shahid is there, how can she not be fresh and happy!

Sushma Reddy was surprisingly nice! She was completely different from her role in Chocolate and acts nicely. It is hard to believe that she is the same girl who was there in Chocolate! Neha Dhupia’s acting is superb. Her performance in this movie is the best as compared to the performance of her previous movies!

Paresh Rawal had very little to do in the second half but was okay in the first half. I don’t know why but Iss baar Paresh Rawal ko dekhkar mazaa nahi aaya! Rajpal Yadav’s performance was the best in the movie and even better than Paresh Rawal. He delivers an outstanding performance and succeeds in entertaining. Good work, Rajpal!

Om Puri delivers a good performance. Suniel Shetty’s character was very similar to that Arbaaz Khan’s character in Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya. His acting was as usual good. Asrani as Sharmaji was as usual. Manoj Joshi as Pooja’s father was okay. Anupam Kher delivers a fine performance. Shakti Kapoor succeeds in entertaining. I think he can act properly only in Priyadarshan’s movie! Others were good.

Himesh Reshammiya’s music was very good and soothing. Some songs like ‘Aaya Re Aaya Re’, ‘Dil Vich’ ‘Shabe Firaq’ was mind blowing. ‘Shabe Firaq’ was unfortunately missing from the movie. WHY???

Art Direction was the best thing of the movie and perhaps the best of all the movies released in 2006 till now. The art director Sabu Cyril has used mostly white colour because of which the movie looks fresh and new. Cinematography was normal. Story was good with many twists and turns!

Priyadarshan’s direction or filming as he says, is excellent and the whole movie is made in a nice way.

But the movie falls in several places. The movie has a non-humorous end. In most of the Priyadarshan’s movie like Hungama, Hulchul, Malamaal Weekly, the climax was the most humorous. But Chup Chup Ke ends very emotionally because of which we think, while coming out of the theatre, that the movie is a dramatic type. Also, the movie had few mistakes.

Some of the excellent scenes of the movie:

  1. Paresh Rawal’s entry

  2. The scene where Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav takes Shahid to hospital

  3. The scene where Shahid gets drunk and sings

  4. The scene where Rajpal is told to polish shoes and wash clothes

On the whole, Chup Chup Ke is a nice entertaining movie with nice performance, good direction and cool music. A good timepass fare.
