First things first, if you are seriously considering admission in Christ University, Bangalore, get physically fit and practice running. If you think your dainty legs won’t be up for this task, buy a hoverboard, because, to attend your classes and keep up your attendance percentage will involve a lot of legwork as the campus is big. Sorry wrong adjective vast.

Is Christ College very stringent on rules and attendance?
The answer is yes and CU authorities take pride on the fact that discipline is maintained meticulously within the campus. So good luck to all you people. In the beginning it will be a constant headache, but with time you’ll find your own coping mechanism to deal with this. 85% attendance is absolutely compulsory to sit for the exams and avoid a parent call, unless of course you plan on dropping out or entering the black books of the professors.
Now that we have chewed on the bone of contention, let’s move over to the other facets of Christ University.
THE CAMPUS
CU has three different campuses which are equally beautiful and serene in their own way.
The main campus – 100 acres
Kenegeri Campus – 75 acres
Bannerghatta Campus – 30 acres
The 100 acres main campus is strategically located close to residential student dominated areas such as BTM Layout, Koramangala, Jayanagar and S.G. Pallya. The lush green, eco friendly zero waste campus welcomes its students through a tree lined path into the campus.Unless you are a BBM student(their building is right beside the main campus gate) you got to sprint your whole way past the beautiful trees and the many buildings to reach your class on time. A moment of silence and sympathy for all the students who will attend classes in Block 4, it’s literally on the other end of the campus.(Repeat Reminder: Buy Hoverboards)
The eco-friendly Kenegiri Campus located on Mysore Road houses the faculty of Engineering, P.U. Residential College and Christ Institution of Management. As the campus is located on the outskirts of the city away from its hustle bustle, it lends a clean and peaceful environment to study. The 75 acres lush green campus comes with 5 lakes, a mighty coconut grove, 4 basketball, 2 volleyball, 2 football and a tennis court. In short, it is perfect for a sport loving geek. The Bannerghatta Campus is new and will inaugurate soon.
CAMPUS LIFE
Despite the strict rules, CCTV cameras, dress codes and a conservative outlook, student life at Christ’s is hectic but excellent. Given that you have had time to wrap your head around the rules and regulations of CU, it’s one of the best campuses to nurture yourself academically, intellectually, socially and come out as a whole new person. The campus is huge enough for the vast number of students to have a quiet or fun moment of their own. CU has many clubs(some of which are compulsory) where you can join. Make sure you’re a part of a few as you’ll get to meet like minded, friendly people from all over the country with whom you can have intelligent conversations on books, movies, quantum physics and anything that catches your eye.
As the main campus is not located far from the residential areas of the city, there are plenty of places to drink/eat/hangout when the mood strikes. The taste and quality of food lacks stability and keeps on fluctuating on the campus. If you are looking for constancy in your palette and flavors, there are several options available outside the campus, depending on your pocket.
On a shoe string budget at the end of the month, satisfy your hunger pangs at Kota Kachori, Lot Like Crepes, Momo Hut in Koramangala. In a mood for a buffet or 3 course meals, well Bon South, Punjab Grill, Barbeque Nation and Serafina are just round the corner to gratify those taste buds. Stop for a drink or two, well maybe more at Legends of Rock, Purple Haze Pub, Harry’s Bar+ Cafe, FirangiPaani and many more. All in all you have loads of places to enjoy your life while studying at CU.
HOSTELS
The Christ University hostels are incredibly plush and comfortable to stay, but comes with a set of stringent rules that one needs to abide by whether they like it or not. The fathers keep a strict eye on all hostelities and have zero tolerance for consumption of alcohol and cigarettes inside the campus. All electronic gadgets are allowed inside the hostels, be it a laptop, camera, tablet and you are also allowed to keep up with your music practice involving instruments, within a certain limit. Weekend leaves are granted to boarders after they have applied for it and have received a written confirmation from the father. Attendance at hostel is closely monitored and one must be inside by 9 pm sharp. In case you decide to take off for a night and chill at your friend’s PG, a fax will be send to your family intimating them about the same. God knows which century your parents are living in to receive a Fax! Fax is when you waste paper in one place and magically paper is wasted in another place of your choice!
Now, take some deep breaths to adjust to these facts, unless of course you come from a convent schooling background, where all these rules are a part of normal grind. These are some of the rules you need to follow unless you want to give up hostel or get into trouble. if you want to spare yourself from all these troubles just rent a PG out of the numerous available in Koramangala or S.G. Pallya and settle in.
ACADEMICS AND FACULTY
CU takes its academics very seriously, so prepare yourself to work hard or perform decently to the least. There are continuous Internal Assignments and at times you may feel overwhelmed. But worry not you’ll deal with it gradually. The professors are great and may at times seem unhelpful and uptight, but they have excellent domain knowledge, so it’s good to maintain a great rapport with them to make the best of your time at CU.
STUDENT AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Christ University provides you endless possibilities for creative outlet with fests, activities, workshops and competitions being organized at a regular basis. There is hardly a week in CU that goes without a fest or competition being hosted by one of the many departments in the varsity. The fest will take you to a different world itself with its colourful props and theme based decorations organized with exceptional care and dedication by the students.
Darpan, In Print, Blossoms, Mangovite, Swad, Maadyam, Dance Extravaganza, Esprit Vistas, Campus Connect, In Bloomare some of the popular fests that takes place annually. On a regular basis, street plays and campus fairs are pretty common. Flash Mobs and beat boxing are a regular activity in the campus especially during the lunch hours. The official Choir of Christ University is exceptionally talented and an integral part of various fests that are organized. Thus practice hard if you want to be a part of this prestigious group.
In a crux, Christ University comes with as many pros as there are cons, though the cons are a little harsher for students hailing from a liberal schooling background. It will take time to adjust in the beginning, but once you get used to it and determine to make the best out of the opportunity you have got, CU is a gold mine, waiting to be explored.
